BWG warranty company is running a scam...and I am not the only one they are doing this to. See the links above.

They will not honor the warranty I bought.  Despite 3 phone calls to BWG and customer service representatives repeatedly telling me the claims department would return my call I have never had a chance to personally speak with anyone from their claims department.

About 2 weeks ago I was told by customer service that someone from claims would call me back to tell me an address to take my car to so the Sirius receiver could be looked at and they could do troubleshooting. This never happened. Instead...Friday someone from BWG called my house while I was at work and left a message with my 10 year old son stating they were "buying out" my warranty. I called back BWG and informed them that I didn't want the check, I wanted a diagnostic...as promised in my warranty. The customer service rep told me it was too late, the check is in the mail. He also said it was "determined" by the claims department that it cost too much to repair so they would only send me the cost of the unit back, minus installation, tax and the cost of the warranty. I asked how they determined this, as nobody  has even looked at the thing. He said, I don't know, I can't help you. You don't live near a Car Toys. I was so mad I hung up.

Nobody has looked at my system. Nobody has done any trouble shooting. I paid almost $700 for this system to be installed 18 months ago...I DO NOT WANT their lousy $271 back. It will cost almost 3 times that to get a new one. The tuner will not turn on...it was intermittantly working for about a week before the power was completley lost. I cannot get regular AM/FM radio to work right now, and that is not run through the Sirius tuner. It might be a loose wire, a fuse out somewhere, or something else just as simple...but how would anyone know if nobody has ever looked at it????

The warranty I bought states:

Peace of mind: If we can't fix it, we'll replace it. (That's an "IF" statement...nobody has looked at it, how can they determine it cannot be fixed??)
Savings: No out-of-pocket expenses for diagnostics, repair, removal, or reinstallation. (Apparently this is a flat out lie, as they have not given me any opportunity to exercise even one of these options.)
Convenience: Not near a Car Toys store? Don't worry, local service is available anywhere in North America. (I was SPECIFICALLY told they wouldn't help me because I don't live near a Car Toys!!)
Features: Covers diagnostics. removal, and reinstallation. Nationwide service centers. (Again, reiterating coverage they refuse to honor).

Guess what - this is par for the course.

Your warranty "benefits" you listed from the brochure are in print only and serve as a marketing ploy.

Extended warranty (service plan, etc) administrators cut deals with repair companies.  If there is not a solution to bring your product to them, then they have no choice but to "buy you out."  Onlt the fine print in your Terms and Conditions will state if you should have gotten fair market value for the unit with no strings.

"Peace of Mind" - they all say it - no such animal with the hassles of extended plans.

"No out of pocket expenses.........."  Technically there was no diagnostic fee - but that didn't impede your getting ripped off.

"Nationwide service" - only their "contracted" servicers.  Unfortunately, you lose.

As with all extended plans, if you have to read the fine print and need an attorney to interpret, it ain't worth the paper it was printed on.

I say you should have gotten fair market value replacement as the intent of the program.  Contact your 1. BBB and file a complaint.  2. State Division of Consumer Affairs with a copy to the State Attorney General.  Get the District Manager or Business Owner for the retailer and tell him what steps your are taking.   Watch them scurry!!  You should get action.  Good luck.
