In short we have a personal loan for $20,000 which was taken out at the insistence of HFC when we refinanced with them. Our payments were $426. My husband became very ill and unable to work. I asked if we could settle the loan and pay it off. They made an offer and when I did not agree to the offer within the week they gave me they refused to honor the offer.
My husband was very sick and I was trying to borrow the money for the settlement. I got back to them as soon as I could. They refused to help and gave my account over to the law firm of Girvin and Perlazzo. The also put a judgement against . They told me if I did not pay at least $450 a month they would garnish my salary for probably $800 a month. The $450 a month was more than my original payments of $426 a month. I can't afford this and have begged HFC and the law firm to help. They have refused. To top it off the $450 a month is good only to October. After that they can raise it more. Most of the payment is going to interest. I can never win and can't afford this.
They give me no help and no choices. I'm sunk with this. I have written to the CEO Brendan McDonagh and I'm waiting for a response.

If you file Bankruptcy there is nothing they can do, than move.
They are a bunch of crooks. I have a loan with them, they steal every thing they can in every way they can. They are getting ripe for the government to take a shot at them. They are getting over board with their fraud. I will love the day it comes. They think they are too big to fail, I can name you others who thought that, they are gone now.

I know what you are saying and hfc cannot be trusted. If you can't afford their minimum payments try to send 15-20 each week. That is what i am doing and they had the nerve to put a lien on my condo but i confronted them in court myself and met with one of hfc's lawyer and I didn't trust him and he said i can call for the balance anytime i want. I told him, look i have read a lot about you guys and you guys don't care and that is when he said yes we do and i said no you don't and than i said to him are you getting payments from me each week and that is when he admitted to me yes we are. At least i confronted and i feel if i didn't meet him he would of put a lien on my place. So just start making small payments and i know their is going to be a charge against HFC soon. Their business practices are not good at all.

but they really are not under any legal obligation to help you :(
You did sign a contract with them, and they are in the business to make money. If you can't afford their payment perhaps you should look in to bankruptcy protection?
if they already have a judgment against you, there's very little you can do to stop them from just taking the money from your paycheck. Have you spoken with a lawyer or a credit counselor?
