Barbara Barton Sloane and her husband Michael Sloane travel around the world on hosted group press junkets for journalists.  The hosts of the trip, such as hotels, pay all expenses. Barbara, a writer, calls Michael her “photographer” in order to get his trip paid by the hosts. They consistently ruin the mood for everyone. Michael doesn’t photograph much of the scenery because he’s too busy hitting on the younger female journalists, who are clearly uninterested. Barbara gets annoyed with the women rather than at her husband, sulks, and then won’t participate in the planned activities.  Both also complain constantly that the destination isn’t as great as New York. They make an unpleasant pair. To make matters worse, Barbara does not disclose that she goes on junkets to her editors, nor her readers.  Hosted press trips are controversial in journalism, so some publications for which she writes forbid them.
