On Oct 8, 2010 I walked into Barkworks in Westside Pavilion and the manager "Adam" befriended me.  Asked if I wanted to see a particular puppy.  After mulling around the store for a bit I did inquire on a few puppy breeds and thats when he brought out one of the puppies for me to interact with.  I spent nearly 1 hour in the store with an 10week old Boggle pup whom I fell madly in love with.  I hesitated at first and then decided to purchase her.

Withinn 36 hours of being with me she had visited the vet for an initial exam, had a fecal test and was admitted to the hospital.  Her Vet exam came back with Coccidia, Giardia, upper respitory problems, herpes and more.  When I stopped into pick up the medications, the vet urged me to go straight to the emergency room that she beleived the dog had pneumonia.  I didnt even hesitate I went directly there, where infact she was correct.  The hospitalized her immediatly and began treatment.

I immediately notified "Adam" at Barkworks as a courtesy to make sure that the other dogs were tested as well as I know many of those are contagious. When I notified "Adam" at the Barkworks he urged me to send in the reciepts that I would promptly be reimbursed for them (8-10 days) as they had no idea the dog was sick prior to purchase.  After updating the dogs condition each day "Adam" continued to assure me there was no problem in my being reimbursed for her care.  On Oct 11th I updated him again and this time his tune changed...now he is telling me to submitt all I want but they will only reimburse upto 150% of the purchase price of the dog.  He tells me that I should have read the fine print more closely and that his was not his place to go over it with me.  Of course all it was the day I signed was "I need you to sign here, initial here, signature again over here...etc..."

Now my Hospital bill is upwards of $2000 and they are refusing to pay for more then $1050 off it.  I'll be dammed if they continue to get away with this kind of treatment.  Not only to customers like myself but for the puppies mainly.

It still amazes me that people do not read contracts before they sign them .

what you wrote.
"He tells me that I should have read the fine print more closely and that his was not his place to go over it with me.  Of course all it was the day I signed was "I need you to sign here, initial here, signature again over here...etc...""

This is your own fault . you should read and under stand any contract you sign .
I bet you would have bought the dog anyway even if you had read and understood everything about the reimbursement.

Now the only way to stop these type of places is for people like you to stop buying pets from them . I see on the TV millions of people  b***h about puppy mills , yet the same folks go right to the pet store and buy a puppy. go to the shelter and adopt a dog next time.
