Barrister is where I got my start being a contractor. I started out installing HP photo kiosks and moved on to repairing printers. I did this for about 3 years and became quite good at it with all the practice. During this time, Barrister became harder and harder to deal with. The last straw came when I arrived at a site only to find they had cancelled the job. I requested a trip charge ($25) due to the fact that I had to drive an hour to arrive. They refused to pay claiming they had "notified me via voicemail" which I didn't get until I had already arrived.

At this time I was dealing with a situation where I was going to two locations in the same time period. I found they had mistakenly scheduled me for a third location which was 2 hours away at the same time. I called and pointed this out and Barrister said they would take care of it. Next thing I know, they had slapped me with a $100 penalty and didn't pay me for the last 2 jobs. After a lot of emails and several weeks, they finally agreed to drop the penalty but never paid me. They (contractor pay) will not talk to you on the phone and do not answer email half the time. I thought about suing but it was not worth my time.

Returning core parts was a pain. If the part does not come with a shipping label then you have to email them and request it. Then you have to email them again if they do not respond. Meanwhile they will bombard you with emails requesting the part back. Makes no sense.

Tech support would keep me on site for 2 - 3 hours but Barrister would not compensate for the extra time onsite. It was not worth $45 to be there that long.

I am disappointed that Barrister continues to defend their reputation by implying that techs lie about the problems they experience. Barrister needs to work on resolving these issues if they want to be successful and respected in the IT community.

That being said, I got paid for most of the jobs I did but there were too many hassles. I commonly spent hours going over my pay to make sure I was being paid correctly and dealing with problems if I didn't.

Barrister may be ok if you need to make some money short term but there are other companies out there that pay better and will not give you any hassle.
