I am a former employee of Pink Lime Salon and Spas in Calgary, Alberta Canada.


I have personally witnessed several employees complain to the owner of Pink Lime Salon and Spa's calgary branch several times about the following:


1.) Bounced Checks


2.) Non-Payment of Wages


3.) Cancelling Shifts 5 Minutes before they begin, which is illegal under canadas employment code, which requires at least 24 hours notice before hte cancellation of any shift


4.) Bringing an employee in for less than the legal minimum shift times, which is three hours


5.) Not allowing and/or hindering the breaks of his employees, who sometimes only received a 20 minute lunch break for an 8 hour shift


6.)Cutting his employees hours that had already been logged and worked, by as many as 7 hours per week


7.) Non-payment of tip check in substancial amounts


8.) There were also several complaints about mice in the employees breakroom.


Several employees have filed complaints with the Employment Standards board, which seems to help a little, until he sends checks in the mail that bounce. I would encourage any Stylist or esthetician who is currently looking for a job to beware, and consider the complaints posted on this website carefully before choosing to work with Pink Lime in Calgary.


As far as the clients go, I had seen few satisfied when they left during my short term of employment with Pink Lime. A personal friend of mine went in with a 50 percent off coupon and left paying just under 200 dollars for a cut and a partial highlight, needless to say unsatisfied.


I have noted several other customers who were overcharged and underserviced and I would recommend that any client considering visiting pink lime to carfeully consider the posts on this website as well.

I am the owner of pink Lime and I would like to share my story regarding the accusations list here.  I will do this in point form.

1...Bounced Checks...

There was a period of time when we were closing the Richmond location and all accounts related to this, and opening the new Downtown West end Location and it's related accounts, we had some hic ups with moneys transfers.  As a business owner is this unacceptable and very humiliating.  Any time this happened it would be rectified as soon as possible and all NSF fees were paid out also.  This has not and is not any longer happening.  All financial matters have been dealt with.

2...Non-Payment of Wages...

Not too sure what this means.  I do pay my people.  If you are an employee, handed in your SIN # and you have spent time in the office working, you will be paid.  It is that simple.

3...Canceling Shifts 5 Minutes before they begin, which is illegal under Canada's employment code, which requires at least 24 hours notice before the cancellation of any shift...

Canceling Shifts 5 minutes before does not happen.  Yes we do cancel or decrease shifts if the bookings are not there.  As mentioned in the hire agreement, we are an on call business, and you need to be aware that there will be times that you will be called in last minute (specific days/times)

4... Bringing an employee in for less than the legal minimum shift times, which is three hours

Any time an employee works for less than 3 hours - they are paid for 3 hours.  That is the law.

5...Not allowing and/or hindering the breaks of his employees, who sometimes only received a 20 minute lunch break for an 8 hour shift...

This is simply untrue.  You are allowed to take a break, but you need to ensure that your space is covered for your absence.  We do make the employee accountable for their area.  If you work an 8 hour shift you are allowed 1 hour break throughout the day.

6...Cutting his employees hours that had already been logged and worked, by as many as 7 hours per week...

Yes we do dock hours ~ for breaks, lunches and appointments.  AGAIN this is discussed at the time of hire.  It is understood and the employee is fully aware.  At most you would ever be taken off is 1 hours/day worked.

7...Non-payment of tip check in substancial amounts...

Tips are always paid out!  They are not ours to keep.  They are usually paid on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  Our Edmonton location pay out monthly.

8... There were also several complaints about mice in the employees....

Our location is DownTown Calgary in 5West Towers, a Grade A building in the WestEnd of Town.  We are 1 block from the River and C-Train tracks, and there has been nothing but construction sites around us.  I have to admit that we did have a tiny mouse - The building maintenance has told us that when the staff go to the back alley to smoke, is when the little mouse crawled into out staff room.  It was located and eliminated quickly.  There are no mice in our location, has never ventured past the staff room. and has not been spotted since. 

9...Several employees have filed complaints with the Employment Standards board...

I can't stop a former employee from wanting to talk to Employment Standards.... that is what they are there for.  I am grateful that there is such a system out there.

OUr rates are no different than Angles, Swizzlesticks, Diva,Hennessey.... we are all charging the going rate for our time and energy.  We do have overhead, staff wages, and all costs that go into runing a business.  From the wording above, the services MUST have been a full hi hite, and cut with extra color - or she only had a 20% off coupon. 

Our clientle has been coming to our location for 10 + years and they are very happy.  We get emails of praise weekly.  Our team goes above and beyond to assit clients needs each and every day. 

The staff that we currently have are loyal to pink Lime, adore their boss, have a smile on their face each day.  They are proud to say they work at pink Lime and I am equally proud to say they work for me.
