Another rip off by BBandT. After having an account with this bank for about a year, I've finally learned my lesson. This time its cost me a lot. I am disabled and receive my disability check on the 1st of each month. I've deposited my check into my account as soon as it comes in the mail. It's always deposited between the 4-8 of each month.

This time I deposited my check to my account and it showed up on my on-line account balance the next day, which was Wednesday. Today (following friday) I went to use my debit card and it was declined. I went to my on-line account and it showed -1600.00. I mailed all my bills the day I deposited my check.

I called the branch customer service rep and the branch manager. I was told that it was now bank policy that when a check is deposited into an account that you can not access the money until the bank that the check was wrote on paid the check and the money was credited to my account.

They placed a hold on my account wednesday night or thursday morning and deducted the check out of my account cause everything that had cleared to overdraft and overdraft fees of 34.00 per transaction was charged and anything else that tried to clear my account will be billed the 34.00 fee per each transaction. Leaving me with about 500.00 in overdraft fees.

I asked the branch manager why this happened. I explained that for the past 1 I've deposited the same amount of money every month from the same comapny and never had this problem. According to them when you deposit a check whether its your company pay check or your disability check the funds are held for 7-10 days and you can't access that money or use your debit card or right checks.

None of my checks have been returned they just charge all the nsf charges. I was also told to call the headquarter and see how far I got, they would do nothing for me it was his decision and its final. be aware of this bank and stay away. They are a total rip-off. I have copies of all my deposits for the past year to prove theres never been a problem and never any questions ask.

I asked why no one bothered to call me and was told they did. I've been in my house all week and have a answering machine and no one has called. I also have vonage digital phone service and it logs every call coming and going to my home. BBandT isn't listed as an incoming call to my home.

BB&T -Big ripoff

AUTHOR: Jeff - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 03, 2006

To respond back, I never had any NSF fee's before or any problems with my account due to my fault. Everytime something went wrong with this account it turned up being a problem caused by BB&T. As far as for the disability check, that same check had been deposited in that account for about a year without any problems and the money was always available the next business day without any questions. All of a sudden they changed the rules and tried to hang me. I did deposit the check into the account as I always did, wrote checks to pay my bills. After a week I tried to use my ATM card and it was declined, after contacting the bank I was told that the disability check was placed on hold for 14 days and that everything check and ATM charge that came through would be charged a 34.00 NSF fee until the money from the disability check was deposited into my account. They did hold the funds for 14 days and I was told that was their policy and no matter what had happened in the past that they would continue this in the future. I ended up with over 400.00 in NSF charges once the money was deposited into the account. The branch manager was the one that gave this information to me and he enforced it. He told me that a teller did call my home to notify me, I provided him with the call detail record from my digital phone service provider that showed they did not call my home. About a week after I confort the branch manager, they mail a notice to me explaining the hold, by this time the hold was in effect 2 weeks.

I have read so many complaints about this same thing happening with others banking with BB&T, so I know now it's just another rip off that BB&T uses to steal from their customers. My new account has been open for almost a year now and I've never paid any kind of fees to the bank, had no returned checks, and never had any holds placed on my disability check. They told me that they do not place holds on SS disability checks and its most banks policy not to. Again BB&T never placed a hold for an entire year and then one day decided to put a hold on the account and screwed me and they will screw you before its over. They make their money by stealing from you. BANKERS BE WARE

NSF Charges and Hold Times

AUTHOR: Ken - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 20, 2006

First thing, what you got were Uncollected Charges, not NSF. That's why your checks were paid. Although banks may return for uncollected, often they pay them and charge the fee.

Now... 7-10 days is not a normal hold for a check. If the check is as you described, you should have gotten $100 availability the next day, and the rest in 2 days. If they really placed a hold for 7 - 10 days, they are required to hand you a notice at time of deposit saying they are extending the hold, and the reason why. If you didn't get a notice, and if they really did hold for that long, they are in violation of the law.

Go to the branch, sit (calmly!) with the manager and ask them to explain exactly what happened in your case. If the manager tells you the check was held, point out that you were never provided a Funds Availability Notice, and ask to have the charges reversed.

If you did get said notice, and didn't read it, all bets are off. They can legally extend the hold if they believe there is a reason the check may not be paid, if you have a history of overdrafts, or if you have a history of depositing items which were returned, among other reasons.

All financial institutions in the U.S are subject to the same set of guidelines in regards to funds availability.

BB&T close account

AUTHOR: Jeff - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 20, 2006

the only way to solve your problem with BB&T is to close the account and ran as fast as you can to another bank. I've closed my account out and never looked back. I'm with a bank now that I enjoy go business now. They act as if they're glad to have me as a customer. I moved 6 months ago and still get cramp in the mail from BB&T. It goes right in the trash unopened. They can kick my _____. They are a pitiful excuse for a bank, They should be list as one of the biggest ripoff scams in history.
