I made two calls to Michigan from a phone in an Inn in Edinburgh, Scotland which took credit card. Each call was only a few seconds long, just long enough to say hi and ask my parents to call me back on my cell phone. I figured it might cost one pound or fifty pence, (which would have been expensive) but the charge was from "BBG Communications, San Diego, California" and was ten dollars for each call. The charges are still "pending" so that might not even be the final amount. It has only been three days since the calls.

I would suggest to hotels, not to put these boxes on their facilities. Especially not in a hostel where people are trying to save money.
