I've had several problems with this bank ever since they bought out my original bank, F&M Bank. I had a checking account with about 200 dollars in it at the time of the merger/buyout. So, BB&T decided to go ahead and close out the account about a month after the merger, without my approval or any notification.

When I call and ask them why it was closed, they said it was an inactive account. My response was: If it has money in it, how can it be inactive? And besides that, how can you close an account with money in it without my approval, which I did not give? So, they reopened my account and graciously agreed to waive the associated fees. What I should have done was get a check for the money and then leave and get a new account at a new bank.

But, I didn't have any problems with them until about a year later when all of a sudden my account balance went from plus 300 to negative 246 dollars in the course of two days. Not by my doing. When I try to investigate the "representative" at the branch told me that these were legitimate charges against the account. Which I debated, but were unable to get them to change.

Well, my problem is this: If you know the account is going into the red, how can you keep allowing withdrawals from the same account? These overdrafts were all done through my ATM/Check Card, so there would easily have been real-time validation against my available balance. Theoretically, you can't withdraw more money than you have in the account if I remember correctly. Yet they allowed the charges to go through. And to top it all off, they charge me overdraft too.

Now the fun begins. They close the account for overdraft, and send me a letter telling me that I have to pay the money to them or else they'll take action against my credit rating. The letter has no phone number or any contact information for you to discuss the matter with someone. Just a letter telling you to pay or else in nice business terminology.

Wonderful bank.

How many aren't complaining?????

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 19, 2003

To Mike,

I would strongly suggest you file a complaint against BB&T with both the FDIC and FTC. You've got a lot of ammunition in the other complaints listed here.

What needs to happen is that everyone who has filed a complaint thus far need to get together and file suit against this bank!!!!

My wife and I have been the victims of BB&T and their practices for many, many months. I've kept up the fight for two reasons.
1.) We're right!
2.) BB&T isn't going to CHEAT us and get away with it!

BB&T bought out our old bank of F&M. Now this was a great banking establishment. It
reminded me of the banks of old where the employees knew you by your first name and you rarely, if ever got any type attitude from any of the employees!

BB&T changed that quickly.
We started having trouble with employees and the banks way of doing business after 6 weeks under their iron fist!

Both my wife learned the hard way that if you listen to what a BB&T employee tells you and your money is at risk, chances are you're going to lose it!

On five different occasions, either my wife or I called our local BB&T branch and ask serious questions concerning deposits and withdrawls.

Each time we followed the BB&T employees instructions and got BURNED!!!!!!

Everytime we turned around we had NSF fees applied to our account!

It wasn't just $30.00 or $32.00. Sometimes it was $60.00, $90.00, $120.00 or even $150.00 a day in NSF fees!

When we complained that the NSF fees were a result of our following BB&T employees information and directions, the BB&T employees still refused to return the NSF fees.

We even had one little bimbo at BB&T, after her false and or misleading information had cost us $90.00 replied "Well I'm not going to give you back the entire $90.00. I'll split the difference with you and give you back $45.00!".
when I asked her if BB&T was going to return that $90.00!

This is a pattern my wife and I have seen since they started the trouble!

BB&T has no viable or dependable chain of command that you can follow.

These people aren't interested in what is actually happening to many of their customers.

People shouldn't be fooled. Of course BB&T isn't going to cheat all their customers.

But check the other Websites where complaints are made and you'll find hundreds and hundreds of other complaints.

And where there's smoke there's fire!!!

That fire has cost us several thousand dollars in NSF fees and a lot of embarrassment!

To this day, their antics continue to cost us hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in NSF fees.

There comes a time where our thoughts of these people being rude and incompetence as being the problem and we must start to think about the possibility that this is an organzized plan.
