Well, my ripoff started because of my husband. The goverment froze our checking account, it takes 45 days for the frozen funds to be removed by the goverment. Thats the background!!!

The bank did not notify me of the freeze for two weeks after the fact. So of-course I went about business as usaual. As a curtisity the bank paid all of the checks and charges from my account. The clincher is they charged me $30 NSF charge for each debit from the account.

Once the original amount of money that was in the account was removed the bank started charging me a $30 fee for overdrawn account. In the end of a 45 day period I was in debit to the bank for $628.00 of which they actually paid out from my checks $230.00. So not only did the goverment get the inital ballance BB and T capitalized on our downfall by about $400.00.

I tried to rebute these charges, however they claim it is just a curtisity to there customers. So now I am unable to get a checking account ANYWHERE do to there curtisity.

I truely believe there only curtisity was to themselves.

answer all your questions

AUTHOR: Carie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 30, 2004

O.K. LET'S START WITH JAMIE IN MARYLAND, FOR ONE IF YOUR ACCOUNTS ARE BEING CLOSED BECAUSE OF YOUR HUSBANDS BAD BEHAVIORS YOU SHOULD HAVE CLOSED THE ACCOUNT LONG BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT HAD TO PUT A FREEZE ON IT. THE GOVERNMENT DOSENT JUST FREEZE ACCOUNTS. THERE MUST HAVE BEEN SOME KIND OF FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY. YOU SHOULD HAVE PLACED A STOP ON ALL DEBIT TRANSACTIONS AND JUST PAID ONE FEE, AND IT WOULD HAVE SAVED YOU A LOT OF MONEY INSTEAD OF LETTING IT GO ON FOR 45 DAYS.

FOR ROBERT IN DALE CITY, FIRST LETS NOT BACKTRACK TO CHILDHOOD CALLING PEOPLE NAMES BECAUSE YOU ARE ANGRY. WHEN YOU OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH BB&T YOU ARE GIVEN LITERATURE ON FEES AND POLICIES ON EVERYTHING. REGUARDLESS OF ANY DISCREPANCY OF INFORMATION GIVEN TO YOU BY AN EMPLOYEE IT'S STILL THERE IN BLACK AND WHITE ON YOUR PRICING GUIDE AND BANK SERVICES AGREEMENT. RULES ARE RULES.

FINALLY FOR JAY IN WILMINGTON, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF ATM'S AND HUNDREDS OF BRANCHES IN EIGHT STATES. IT MUST BE PRETTY TOUGH TRYING TO FIND A BB&T ATM, I MEAN REALLY THEY'RE ON EVERY STREET CORNER. FINALLY FOR YOUR ATM CARD IF YOU USE IT AS A DEBIT IT DEDUCTS FROM YOUR ACCOUNT WITHIN 24 HOURS. IF YOU USE IT AS A CREDIT IT CAN TAKE UP TO THREE DAYS BECAUSE THE COMPANY ISSUING THE DEBIT JUST VERIFIES THE OPEN ACCOUNT WHEN SWIPING YOUR CARD.

Cashpoint ATMs. Notice, these ATMs are VERY close to BB&Ts. They are charging BB&T clients for using ATMs owned by the company

AUTHOR: Jay - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 30, 2003

Just to let your service know:
I'm a former employee, and wanted your audience to be aware of one thing; BB&T owne and opperate "Cash Point" ATM machines. When asked, a BB&T employee are required to tell you they do not owne these ATM machines, they do this because BB&T makes money when you use "Non-BBT" ATMs.

So BBT uses this stipulation in your service agreement to make you think your using a ATM that is not BBT...(the ATM charges you $1.50, and the Bank charges you $2.00!) Nice deal?

There are many other instances where the bank has the electronic system set up to charge you, called double-dipping....( when you use your ATM card, the money is set aside, yet dose not post in your acct until 3 business days). So, essentially, your money is not used to cover items that come to post into your acct... that's o.k., but when the actual item comes thu your acct, those funds that were "set aside" were used on NSF fees, and they charge you a NSF fee for the transaction that was "on hold". This doubles their take for your mistake; They call this "double-dipping".

Anyway, I thought I'd pass on this information, especially the Cashpoint ATMs. Notice, these ATMs are VERY close to BB&Ts. They are charging BB&T clients for using ATMs owned by the company, with the deception of saying the machine is "NON-BBT".

BB&T, the bank that keeps on TAKING!!!!!!!

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 21, 2003

Being a victim of BB&T's crooked acts, this David from Maryland who answered the first complaint with a spelling lesson is most likely one of the many buffoons employed by BB&T.
The attack fleas employed by BB&t seem only able to insult or criticize any poor sole who dares oppose anything BB&T does.

Anyone ever notice that not one person of any importance from BB&T has dared answer any of these complaints on this website.
Not surprising!

It's pretty d**n hard to try and defend your employer when they are acting like they're the MAFIA or the n**i'S when dealing with customers.
The sociopathic attitudes are appalling.

My wife and I have had nothing but horrible luch in trying to deal with these sleezeballs! The so called "RELATIONSHIP BANKERS" are the same rude and arrogant people only with a CUTE title!

My wife and I have NOT changed our banking practices from when our bank was F&M. Yet F&M in the years we were with them only hit our account for NSF fees twice. Once was a bank error and they immediately replaced the money and apologized. The other was because of a dispute between my wife and her ex-employer.

Yet since about 6 weeks after BB&T took over for F&M, we've been hit with THOUSANDS of dollars in NSF fees.

We learned the hardway that if you take what a BB&T employee tells you as being correct or the truth, chances are you're going to lose like we did.

Numerous BB&T employees gave both of us false and or misleading information and answers to questions we'd asked.

Each and every time we followed their directions, we got hit with multiple NSF's.

When the employees mistakes were brought to the banks attention, they refused to return our money!
One little arrogant BIMBO, when her mistake was brought to her attention told me "There's no way we're going to return the entire $90.00 in NSF fees. But I'll split the difference with you and give you back $45.00!"!

BB&T continues to play their little game to this day. All we do is document everything from bank records to recording all phone calls made to BB&T.
Consult and attorney. File a complaint with the FDIC. File a complaint with the FBI! Contact your local TV consumer reporter and tell them the story.

Talk to others in your area. You'll find that you're not alone. You'll find many people who've been cheated and screwed by this banking establishment!

Watch the news and papers for word of millions of dollars in lawsuits filed against this bank.
Don't give up. Fight theses arrogant asses!!!

Banks are very cold hearted

AUTHOR: Deniece - ()

POSTED: Saturday, August 03, 2002

I have to say that I agree in seveal points Jamie made. The bank, although it may NOT have the responsibility to inform you of a frozen account, does not inform you in a timely manner of changes in your account to the negative. Like if you are overdrawn, it takes at least 7 days to get the "notice" and yet they will charge you the whole time.

I realize that banks are very cold now a days. However, since you didn't know that your accounts were frozen, you couldn't stop payment on your checks as David suggested.

Therefore the bank really did you a favor by paying your checks. If they had NOT done so, you would have had a returned check fee which is $32.00 for each check PLUS the payee of the checks also would have charged you for a bounced check fee.

It seems to me that in this instance the bank did you a favor. P.S. I have had trouble with this bank also so I am not just defending them blindly!

david missed the point

POSTED: Monday, July 01, 2002

David,

The fact that this person spelled a word or two wrong is not the issue. The issue is whether or not this bank is making a habit of
"ripping people off".

I to, am the victim of this bank. It is a shame that you would respond to someone's cry for help by criticizing their educational level of ability to use proper grammer!

Not the Bank's Fault

AUTHOR: David - ()

POSTED: Friday, June 28, 2002

It is not the Bank's responsibility to notify you that the government froze your account. If your account was frozen it by the government then they should have notified you and if they didn't you should have realized it when you used your ATM card or called to check you balance or something.

I know most people are on the phone with the bank at least 1 time a week. It is not your bank's responsibility to credit the charges they put on your account.

You should have stopped payment on your checks that were in process which usually cost $28 per check which would have saved you from having a negative balance.

Another thing is that your husband should have let you know your account was going to be frozen because whatever it was that caused that to happen was obviously his fault and he should have had an idea. One last thing, the word is courtesy and not curtisity.
