BBVA Compass Bank is one of the worst bank that I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Guaranty Bank was great before BBVA Compass bought them. When dealing with BBVA Compass be aware that they process withdrawls before deposits making it easier for you to be charged the outrageous $38.00 overdraft fee. Say you make a purchase on a thursday after business hours for $100.00 dollars, but you do not have the hundred in your account. Your payroll direct deposit hits your account on Friday at 03:00, and it is your pay check for say $500.00. The next day, Friday, they will not process your direct deposit for the $500.00 until they process the withdrawl of $100.00. They can see that you have $500.00 sitting there but because the $100.00 was used before the $500.00 came in,  they will process the withdrawl, hit you with the fee of $38.00 and then process the direct deposit if $500.00 which was just sitting there but they ignored. Is this legal?, yes. It is morally !@#$%ed up because the American tax payer just got hosed for hundreds of billions of dollars to help these worthless dirt bag banks in the first place and this is how they thank us? I have one word for anyone who is thinking about opening an account at BBVA Compass Bank, RUN!!!!

Nobody's Doing Any "Preying" XLR8!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 07, 2010

Its like a broken record...people with ZERO FINANCIAL COMMON SENSE don't keep any records of their account usage.  They haven't a clue as to their account balance yet they continue to use an ATM card.  When they run up O/D fees, oh sure, its a bank's fault!

Rather than considering what others say and learning from the advice of others these same sorry subprime thinkers would rather call names, act like little kids, stomp their feet

Sorry XLR8, unless you haven't heard, accounts don't overdraft by themselves.  Every account holder has the capability to prevent each and every overdraft.  Its a very, very, very simple process...SIMPLY record every transaction, do the math with each entry and you will see exactly how much money you have in the account for the next transaction.  Very, very simple but very obviously over the head of these people.

Employees of Compass rebuttals

AUTHOR: XLR8 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 06, 2010

To the rebuttal comments made on this complaint:

You guys need to read the instructions on how to rebuttal a complaint.  How you handle that rebuttal is how your company is viewed by the rest of the public.  Scolding the consumer only makes us run farther away from you.  Everyone makes mistakes, even you do.  In this time of economic failure, your company is preying on poor individuals and it's ethically wrong and it will be addressed in one way or another, either legally or some other way.  2 major banks have already been sued in large class-action lawsuits with consumers jumping in by the thousands.  Be careful how you handle these complaints, you might be next.

Kiting checks

AUTHOR: Amazed - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, March 19, 2010

The process of kiting or floating checks is illegal, at one time it took up to a week for a check to clear your bank so many people would write checks knowing that they were not good. The feds passed a law allowing banks to process checks within 24 hours of the time they were written to stop this practice.

Do not spend the money if you do not have it.

Update on complaint with BBVA Compass

AUTHOR: Keith - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 19, 2010

A little over a week ago, I wrote a complaint on BBVA Compass bank. Well in all fairness to them I want to say that they have returned my money. I still will not reopen my account but I wanted to be fair to them by telling all of you that I did get my money back which surprised me.

Take Care Everyone,
Keith

Your making it too easy...

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Say you make a purchase on a thursday after business hours for $100.00 dollars, but you do not have the hundred in your account. Your payroll direct deposit hits your account on Friday at 03:00

- Okay let's say this is "floating funds" because that is what it is.  Why not try an experiment.  Go to your local grocery store and pick out $100 worth of items.  Now, at the register let them know that even though you don't have $100 right now you will have it the next day.  Do you think that they will allow you to walk out of the store with the items?  Of course they won't, so why should a bank account be any different.

A bank account is NOT a line of credit.  You can not spend money until it is available.  Even IF they post transactions immediately(which is what some other chronic overdrafters want) you would have overdrafted because the $500 was not even in your account when you spent the $100.  But of course that doesn't work to your advantage so you don't want the immediate posting, you want them to post transactions at the end of the banking day(which they do) but to do credits before debits.  If you do spend money before it is available you are subject to overdrafting your account(and overdraft fees).

Now, do all banks post debits before credits...NO.  But if you don't spend money before it is available you don't even put yourself into that situation in the first place.

Just stay within your available balance...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 05, 2010

This is why it is crucial to keep a check register. As an example, if you have $20.00 in your checking account and you know that your direct deposit will be coming in soon, don't spend more than $20 until that deposit comes in.
