I booked a vacation to the Beaches/Sandals Negril Jamaica Resort for a family vacation. We departed on 15 September 2003 and returned on 19 September 2003. For the amount of money ($3000) that we spent the resort accommodations were horrible.

The Beaches resort was very old, run down and the rooms were very tiny and dirty. Beaches makes it look like a great resort with the pictures in the advertisements and the web site, but Beaches is fooling people with pictures that do not reflect the current depictions and conditions of the resort.

We lost the first day and a half with waiting at the airport for resort transportion, long drive from the airport to the resort and trying to resolve the issues below with the resort. I talked to at least six different families who experienced similar problems with their rooms and resort accommodations.

Below is a list of the problems that we experience at the Beaches Resort in Negril, Jamaica:

The rooms are extremely noisy and humid. They appears to have no insulation. The air conditioner in the rooms had a strong moldy smell. The beds were dirty with food crumbs and stains in it when we checked in. The floors were so filthy that our socks were black from walking on floor within minutes. The toilet and hot water did not work on several occasions.

There were large cockroaches in the room and I was told by a service guy from the resort that the resort has a rat problem.

The food did not taste good and left uncovered with flies landing on it.

The shallowest pool was four feet three inches deep. My child could not stand up in the pool. The Kid pool was for babies (four inches deep). This is suppose to be a resort for kids.

Poor customer service with no sense of urgency and poor attitudes. (especially on arrival).

The hour and a half drive from airport to resort was not mentioned when booking the trip.

Kid Kamp Center (Children area) dirty, messy and smelly (Staff not friendly nor energetic).

Fitness Center and the majority of resort (restaurants) outside in very hot and humid climate.

Only two of the five restaurants were opened.

This vacation to Beaches Negril was supposed to be the best vacation that we had ever taken. It turned out to be the worse. I can not truly express in words the dissatisfaction that we experienced on this vacation! The best part of the vacation was the ocean/beach, which was not part of the resort. Please do not make the same mistake that we did!

Beaches Nigril

AUTHOR: Vincent Fournier - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, September 04, 2009

I suspect this resort was recently revamped as the above descriptions do not fit at all with what I experienced.

My family and I went to the Beaches Nigril in February 2009 and had a fantastic time.  We did not see any roaches at Kimono's or elsewhere and our rooms were clean and luxurious.  Most of the staff was friendly.  We even considered going there for a 2nd straight year but decided to try another country.

My only complaint is that photographers (recruited by the resort) are constantly taking pictures of you to sell them to you later.

I would not go to any other resort in Jamaica, as they have the best spot on any beach I've seen (+sunsets). Yes, it's a little more than an hour's drive from the airport but we knew that before getting there (p.s. we did not wait for transportation, they had chauffeurs on stand-by to take us as soon as we had all come through customs).

Sandals in Negil now way a top notch resort

AUTHOR: Dana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 27, 2006

I went in August 2005 on my honeymoon to Sandals In Negril. The rooms were to say the least not a top notch hotel. It may be in Jamaica but they have to have something to drink too. The service was absolutly terrible. The rooms were hot. The air conditioners were very small window units that took forever to cool the room. Every time we left the room the maids turned off our air conditioning unit. When we came back to our rooms from outdoors it was smoltering hot. There is no use in the flys swarming the food at the buffet. It was pure nasty. When you did go to the buffet you better bring your own drink because after you sit down you aren't getting anything else to drink. No one ever comes to check on you or refill your glass. We went to there japanese restauraunt Komonos and there were not a few but an enormous amount of cockroaches every where. I now it is a tropical climate but there needs to be precautions taken by Sandals to kill the roaches. This was NOT a small roach problem. We got up along with another couple and left. We paid extra and stayed in the Conceirge room. The conceirge was a hateful smart ellic. Now I can understand that I am no longer in America when I go to Jamaica but this was not the Vacation of a lifetime. Sandals Negril is NOT by far at a level that will meet your expectations. But if you don't mind the mosquitos, flys, and cockroaches by all means pay $6000.00 and don't say you weren't warned.

Research Pays dividends...

AUTHOR: Dan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 12, 2005

Lawrence,

While I'm sorry to hear that your vacation to Beaches Negril was not an enjoyable experience, many of the troubles that you complain of could have been avoided with proper research. I have visited several of the Sandals/Beaches properties throughout the Caribbean. The resorts are by no means five-star properties, but they are a far cry from being a dump.

Sandals is notorious for using visually stimulating, beautiful images of its beaches and grounds. Does the advertising accurately depict the resort? Yes. The buildings you see in the pictures are identical to the buildings on the property. As a vacation destination, Sandals is trying to sell you paradise. If you were to have conducted research of their competitors websites you would find that they do the same. Many places throughout the world do not look like they do in the one in a million shot that is used in the advertisement -- does this mean they they cannot use the image?

I am amazed at the number of people that believe that because they spent $3000 they are entitled to perfection. Sure $3000 is a lot of money. However Beaches Negril is a $50 million dollar piece of property -- that means there needs to considerably more guests at the resort throughout the year in order for it to turn a profit. As a result, the resort is going to show a little wear and tear. This is to be expected.

The unexpected drive from the airport to the resort, while perhaps not mentioned, should have been obvious. The airport is in Montego Bay, the resort is in Negril. Numerous vacation reports on internet websites will atest to this drive, as will a quick look to a map of Jamaica. If you wanted to avoid the drive you could have stayed in Montego Bay.

I don't believe you mentioned when you took your trip, but Jamaica is hot and humid. While it varies somewhat depending on when you travel, this is to be expected. You are correct in that many of the restuarants are located outdoors, but who would want to pay money and go through the efforts of traveling to Jamaica to eat indoors?

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I think it is important to remember that you are in a different country. The country of Jamaica as a whole does not move at the same pace as the United States. While this can be frustrating, sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself. There is much more to Jamaica than what is inside of the resort's walls.

Please do not view this individual's complaint as accurate or indicative of Sandals. It think it is obvious that this poster had something else in mind when they booked their vacation. Perhaps if they had done a little research their trip would have more enjoyable.
