After two interviews, each lasting 3 hours, I was offered a job. I should have known by what I first saw that this may not be a good place to work, but I remained optimistic.

Aside from the 20+ empty cubicles...

One part time secretary who had no phones to answer so she did paperwork

One salesman who came in at one to make/answer phones all day

One person, who never came out of the office, handled HR, employee's payroll & benefits (?), and underwriting

One Senior Executive who handled large scale business development. (He was extremely nice.)

And one CEO who promised a great opportunity, great salary, great benefits, great stock options, great everthing...but didn't deliver, despite having it all in a written contract.

Starting out, the CEO was the company "trainer". He was very knowledgeable about insurance and gave good examples and concepts, but unfortunately that was about it. Soon after, we were told to work 12+ hours a day plus weekends, which was "interesting" after only being there 3 weeks. The CEO expected us to make cold calls to Presidents/CEO's/Owners of Companies and Banks, asking for business. Talk about a rough situation. If we did land a meeting or a sales call, then the CEO would take it from there. He was rarely in the office and wanted us to email him a daily recap of what we accomplished during the day.

Pay day! Well...not really. After 3+ weeks, no paycheck was to be seen. Only when asking the HR person did something happen. No paystub, no details, nothing but a check. They said it was an "advance" and was to be paid back later. The contract that was given was misleading and incorrectly worded; having spelling and grammatical errors everywhere.

To make a long story short, I recommend that if you're looking for an insurance company to work for, look towards the larger corporations that have an actual HR department, full time employees, a corporate policy and an employee handbook that details the important topics. Legally, I don't know why this company has not been audited or checked out by the State's Insurance Department.
