Becky Acord's daughter Taylor Wyman rode in the Massachusetts Horse Benefit Show in October 2010. Becky pre-entered her daughter. When she picked up her daughter's exhibitor numbers at the secretary's booth the volunteer forgot to ask Becky for a check or cash.

The day after the show the mistake was realized. I tried to contact Becky for over a month. I finally reached Becky who told me she had paid and had her bank statement to prove it. She would not fax, email, or mail the bank statement.

I finally filed in small claims court against her but on the day of court my son was sick and I could not appear. A check from Becky for the $219 (It did not include the small claims court fee.) arrived in the mail two days after the court date. I deposited the check and on May 2, 2011, received it back with STOP PAYMENT on it.

Because she did not show up in small claims court either, the case was thrown out. When she received notice of this in the mail, she put a stop payment on the check.

So, now, she has taken $219 plus the $40 small claims court fee out of the mouths of horses. All the show's proceeds went to Blue Star Equiculture Draft Horse Sanctuary in Palmer. The $259 would go to feed the rescue horses.

She refuses to pay.

As a side, her daughter won well over $200 in prizes at the Benefit Show.

Not one thing in her rebuttal is true. Oh, except the stop payment on the check. That is true.

Rocky Ledge Stable; Becky Accord; Purchased a very sick horse from her

AUTHOR: Becky Accord Rocky Ledge Stables - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, August 21, 2011

We purchased a $7000 horse from her a few months ago.  One day after arriving home he became very ill.  We started to notice this disgusting nasal discharge.  We called our vet immediately and YUP he had STRANGLES.  Buyer beware.  When we were at her barn she brought out a horse to show us with a huge open sore under his chin.  She said it was nothing and not to worry about it.  But in the same breath she said, her exact words, "If you take him home dont tell anyone where you got him from."  You would think red flag, but she continued to bullshit us.  Stupidity on our behalf, still cant believe I fell for it.  We decided against him because for $7000 we didnt want a horse that had huge open sores.  Anyway; our barn was quarantined for months.  We spent thousands of dollars on vet bills;she had to run tests every week and then everyother; lost our months worth of full board fees not too mention the extra time spent administering meds and washing barn down daily with bleach and water so not to spread the disease.  Also; we lost an entire season of showing.  We never received a clean coggins, which by law she is suppose to give you.  I have heard from another consumer that purchased a horse from her and she faxed over a phony coggins report to him.  That is one of many people I have met since this encounter.  We have a 24 year old mare on our property and luckily her tests came back negative, yes she could have died from this disease.  Email me directly if you have any other questions about this barn.  I have more information but this report would end up taking you quite sometime to read all.  PS, and yes I know; a vet check should have been done, my vet was not too happy that we didnt have this done, although her barn is 2.5 hours away from us.  We have had horses our entire life; we have received free horses up to $15,000 horses and have never had a bad purchase until we found her.

never pay in cash

AUTHOR: Becky - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Well I have learned a very valuable lesson here. NEVER pay in cash at the shows. Ni I did not get a receipt either:( I signed my daughter up for her classes, payed, was handed her number and went about the show day. We even hung around the secretary stand quite a bit that day as it was close to the ring. At the end of the day my daughter had to go up and collect her day end ribbons. Nothing was ever said that day. It was not until several weeks later when I got a phone call saying we did not pay. I asked her to go over her entries and money taken in that this is a mistake. She got loud and kinda crazy with me so I knew this was going badly. I got a notice from the court with a court date. It was a date I did not think I could make it to so I sent a check. There was no choice. It turned out I was able to make it and DID show up but she was a no show. They threw it out in court and advised me to stop payment on the check as there was nothing owed. I did. We do have a show every year and a good portion of it goes to a horse rescue so she has no right saying we are taking from them. We have also rescued many over the years. I have heard about this happening to 4 other people with this show so I was warned. Wish I had listened. I now know for the future. Pay with a check or get a receipt. And us and no one from our stable will be going to her shows again. Poorly run and bad book keeping.
