Leased new car, turned in old car (same mfg, same lease fin company), requested the new lease should comprehend the impact of the over-mile situation on the turned in auto. Sales staff acknowledged this on multiple occasions, determined the new lease payment (with the penalty for the over-miles situation), and I signed the deal. 3 months later, I get a bill from the leasing finance company stating I owe $3400.00 due to the over miles situation on the old lease.

In the sales process, I repeatedly asked for confirmation that the new lease payment included the over miles situation and I was told it did. The dealership is walking away from this penalty and are stating it was my mistake and I should have known better. When I asked if the packet of paperwork I received on the day I signed for the new lease would be any different, I was told "no". I believe I should, as a minimum, get some assistance in paying off this $3400.00 surprise!

Belknap Subaru Response

AUTHOR: Scott Ives - ()

POSTED: Monday, May 27, 2013

While this complaint is several years old, I wanted to address the complaint. Belknap Subaru did everything possible to reconcile with this customer. Not because we misrepresented anything, but because we work hard at customer satisfaction! This customer made multiple contacts with the dealership, talking with several employees, in an attempt to confuse the issues he represented. We patiently sorted out his concerns, but could not find a way to make him happy, short of paying him an unreasonable amount of money! We take great pride in our record of being one of the most consumer friendly dealerships anywhere, but we will not be wrongfully acused!

The customer filed a complaint with the State and the complaint was decided in our favor...there was no misrepresentation by our people, the customer could not provide any evidence to back up his claims! In fact his responses to questions raised by the peolple investigating were muddled and conflicted with his earlier assertions.

Belknap Subaru takes no pride in having any customer unhappy with our dealership...but we do take pride in our people's reputation for doing the right thing!

Respectfully,

Scott Ives

General Manager, Belknap Subaru

Contract

AUTHOR: D K - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Regardless of what you were TOLD what did the contract you signed say? The contract is all that matters and written always overwrites oral... Did you read the contract before signing? did you ask them to show you where in the contract what they were promising you was located? If not, then shame on you. Sales people generally will tell you anything to make a sale. The responsibility lies with YOU to make sure you understand what you are signing...
