Earlier this week a neighbor who recently was downsized asked me if I was acquainted with BHA. I confirmed the uneasy feelings he had after his initial "interview" ... read on for details.
In Dallas, Tx.(1978) as a newlywed and recently relocated female (his job paid more), my husband lost his job when his California employeer closed its consumer products division.

One of his first "interviews" was with BHA who, a friend informed him, could help him find employment at better than his previous salary. First, they wanted to meet me. Then they wanted to revise his resume. And they wanted to know how committed he was to an "investment" in his future.

I had already found employment and said no way to any of my money going to BHA. And I was not going to lose a days pay and jeopardize our only income on a pipe dream. I called BHA and asked very pointed questions and requested written confirmation /references/proof of their claims and successes, none of which was forthcoming. I called again and offered to pick up the information. At that point, I'm quite sure they were no longer interested in meeting "the wife".

Nothing's changed in 24 years in the land of the hucksters. If you're considering spending hard-earned money with them, it would be better invested in a CD. Be warned!

Don't think you'll be the one person who beats the BHA system!

Quote from the Haldane employee:

"Haldane doesn't proclaim to be a recruiter or employment agency, I'll state that right now, however, it's probably the most beneficial college level program you will ever take."

That is the epitome of arrogance and misinformation. Comparing an encounter with Haldane to a "college (level) program" is like a comparison to getting the hell beat out of you by thugs in an alley to a legitimate course in martial arts.

Actually, now that I think about it, there are some STRIKING similarities.

Haldane Corporate Propaganda Just Released!!!

AUTHOR: Donald - ()

POSTED: Sunday, February 24, 2002

It's obvious, Michael from Las Vegas, that you received your copy of the corporate memo. You know, the one with the results of the "send us your best combacks to difficult questions". Remember that one? I do. Let me address your weak rebuttal, but before I do, let me point out that you have done nothing to clear up the mess...

First of all: you talk about helping your clients find 'success' but you never define 'success'. Success to BHA is cash - it's about getting the client past the 'start' and through the workshop asap, so most of the contract is met. Is that the 'success' you spoke of?

You claim that the Haldane method is not a quick fix. So then, why do almost every single posting on this site and on monster.com refer to the promises made by the VP's/Salesmen of 'get a job quick'???

Let me ask you, Michael: What formal training does a 'career advisor' have? A few weeks sitting in the senior advisor? - you know I'm right on this one. What help with career direction does Haldane provide? The Meyers-Briggs? - not very impressive.

What 'understanding of the career market' does an advisor have that didn't come from meeting with clients (networking) or through reading the local business journal (research)? This is worth big bucks? You provide 'counsel' through the emotions and frustrations? Are you licensed to do so? Trained? You teach career search techniques? No more information than what is offered freely at Monster.com and other sites.

What 'tools' are you referring to? CS2K? Are you kidding? A few websites? - check this out - the DNBMDD data is up to 2 years old - what good is that? You help with business communications? Do you mean the form letters that have been in use - unchanged for more than five years now?

You asked if a college degree got anybody an interview or job offer? Wait a minute - I thought you said "it's up to you". Doesn't that mean that you are very strongly implying that Haldane will get people interviews and job offers - but inreality you won't??? Isn't that exactly what people are complaining about??? And you are confirming their concerns and don't even realize it!

By the way - Haldane may not claim to be a recruiter or employment agency, but on a regular basis, Haldane salesmen talk about 'outsourcing' this type of work to Sterling Hightower - very misleading. Sterling Hightower is actually Sarah Hightower - right? And Hightower does not broadcast resumes out as per the salesmans script - but rather 'made available' if a recruiter would like to do a search?

YES - IT IS ALL SCRIPTED - THE ENTIRE SALES PRESENTATION - THAT EXPLAINS THE SIMILARITIES IN COMPLAINTS ACROSS OFFICES. THE PROBLEMS OCCUR WHEN SALEMEN GO 'OFF SCRIPT' TO GET THE COMMISSION - BECAUSE IT'S ALL STRAIGHT COMMISSION - ISN'T IT MICHAEL?

You make a big deal of the professional nature of the Haldane program. You even compare it to a college degree program. One extremely important thing you forgot to mention was that, unlike Haldane, anyone who enrols in a college degree program can see UP FRONT what is involved. If Haldane was indeed a professional organization, then it would allow it's potential clients to see UP FRONT

*EDitor's Note: This employee REBUTTAL below fails to mention anything about all the reports claiming false & misleading promises of jobs, & those famous lists of jobs that never seem to materialize? Can all the Rip-off Reports be wrong?

AUTHOR: Michael - ()

POSTED: Saturday, February 23, 2002

*REBUTTAL employee (Haldane member)

Most of you that have posted negative articles are not going to like this, but I'm going to take the opportunity to share some realism to these postings.

I can certainly understand the emotions of these articles and I can see where it seems Haldane are scammers, sheisters, and what ever other words you want to use, but the truth of the matter is, most of the these letters aren't from clients.

The Bernard Haldane program is a rigorous program that requires commitment, motivation, and desire. It's an executive career training and development program. Why doesn't it work for some? Well, why doesn't Jenny Craig work for some, why doesn't a new fitness program work for some, why doesn't a marriage counselor save every marriage? Because it's not up to them, it's up to us.

It's human nature to fall back into old habits. Success comes from hard work, Haldane is not a quick fix and they don't market themselves to be. it's a program that provides direction with the assistance of a counselor who is there to help you find your direction not find you a job. If you just want a "job", I say see a recruiter or employment agency. But do the work and research to understand how these agencies work. However, if you are seeking the assistance of someone that can help you with career direction, understanding the career market, counsel you through the emotions and frustrations, teach you career search techniques, tools, business communications, and help you get a handle on your career aspirations and desires, then Haldane can be beneficial.

I see articles mentioning the ridiculous prices Haldane charges, for those of you reading this that have college degrees, consider how much you paid for your degree. How and who decided what the value of that degree was worth? Consider also, although you have this piece of paper that you probably worked hard for, is it getting you to interviews or job offers?

Haldane doesn't proclaim to be a recruiter or employment agency, I'll state that right now, however, it's probably the most beneficial college level program you will ever take. It all depends on how important your career is to you. People today don't stay with companies for the long haul, it just doesn't work like that anymore.

Haldane helps the client how to move throughout the complexities of the career search. The Haldane process doesn't have a deadline or an end, what you learn you will use for life in different ways. If you can put a price on learning, then consider the different prices of colleges, therapists, attorneys, accountants, or any other professional program.

If you are thinking I must be employed by Haldane, you are right. I have contributed to many client's success, but they made it happen by using the methods and techniques. The program is not for everyone, so those of you that decided it's not for you, that is fine, college isn't for everyone either.

It's nice to live in a country where we can make our own choices and decision. For those of you that have decided to get in the program, give it your all, that's really what it takes to reach success. If you want your next employer to cover the cost of the program, pay special attention and work hard with your adivsor on how to negotiate salaries and benefits. Good Luck to all.
