Bought Samsung HLT6176S TV and found out that the Samsung HLT models are lemons because of a design flaw that causes expensive repairs after a few years.

When returning to the store (a few days before the 30 day time period for returns would expire), I was told by the store manager "you have had this item for a month and you have opened the box. this item is not new anymore and we have to charge you a restocking fee"

I asked her where it was written in Best Buys return policy that there is a restocking fee for TVs. The policy that is printed on the back of their receipts specifically names notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS/navigation and in car video systems but does not mention a restocking fee for TVs.

Her answer was: "Our policy states - 'All returns and exchanges must be in original condition and include all accessories'- You opened the box and had the TV for 25 days, so the item is used and not in its original condition anymore."

Keep this in mind next time you are planning a big $$$$ item, with that kind of policy and customer attitude you can also buy the same item over the internet and get it cheaper.

I have made the decision for myself not to buy anything from these blue-yellow clowns anymore.

what you need to do in this case

I assume in this case that you have the original box, manuals, remote and the TV isn't scratched (no fingerprints on the screen etc)

if this is the case and your still within the 30day window and want a refund.. go ahead and return the TV to the store.. the odds are you will get a differn't manager and the return will be processed with no restocking fee... if this is NOT the case.. I would POLITELY Protest.. but if they repeat the same line that a TV 25days old isn't new.. and you'll be charged a restocking fee..

go ahead and return the TV, minus the 15% restock fee.. then once the wrong amount is returned to your credit card.. file a chargeback on the differance.. This is alot easier of a case with your bank for say $200 (or whatever the fee is ) -vs- $2200 when you have proof that you returned the item, when they try to argue the restock fee with your bank, you have the reciept showing no restock fees on TV's... your other option is to contact best buy Executive resolutions dept (you must call the main corp switchboard phone# NOT the toll free number) best case they apoligize over the phone to you... and to make you feel all "warm and fuzzy" they will give you a free gift card... probably around $20 or so for your trouble.

what is going on in your case is that the store isn't hitting it's monthly revenue budget ...like most retail stores....(the exceptions are wal-mart /costco) as a customer you probably don't care but it becomes your problems in cases like this a single TV return.... can really hurt a daily profit report
