To All my Fellow Americans:

Don’t know where to start…Lets make it short…I bought a Sony Vaio VGNFW200, with an extended warranty for $679.99.

Within 6 months of purchase, connection where power slot came loose and computer was not able to receive electric charge. I called customer service and they sent a tech and after a week, tech came and fixed problem.

Now, lets fast forward 6 months later, computer would not turn on at all. I take to “geek squad” and they ship it to SONY. Here is their reply” Motherboard is defective and laptop was previously opened, voiding warranty. Customer needed to purchase accidental warranty coverage. Fee to repair laptop is $679.99. Customer has choice to pay repair fee or request laptop back.”

Yes, the laptop was opened, when SONY TECH repaired the laptop 6 months ago, they have the records, I have the receipts. I tried to explain this to Best Buy rep that called, all he could say, “That’s what the notes are telling me”
    
Now, I have heard horror stories regarding Best Buy’s Extended Warranty coverage but hoped that those were just a few bad apples. I was terribly wrong.

I will not fight them anymore, all I will do is make sure I will post my experience on these websites (www.ripoffreport.com, (((Redacted))), (((Redacted))), (((Redacted))), www.bestbuy/forums.com www.facebook.com awww.myspace.com and www.twitter.com. If I could prevent one person from committing same mistake I did, then that, will make me fell better!!!

John,

Best Buy does not take responsibility for the first incident.  It is under Sony's warranty.  IF the 2nd incident occurred after the 12 month (of a one year Sony warranty), then the extended plan kicks in.  The from "date of purchase" is meant to confuse you.  The ONLY thing BBY would do in year 1 is if Sony diagnosed failure due to power surge, then you'd have to make another call to the plan.  This type of event is rare.  Sony authorized repairs do not void extended plan.  IF your BBY plan administrator knew this, they are morons.

Based on what you are describing, the issue is an electrical one, which is covered either way.  The plan administrator (which is not Best Buy), is nickel and diming you.

I recommend immediately contact your State Better Business Bureau and file a complaint witha copy to the State Attorney General (Division of Consumer Affairs).  Send Best Buy Corporate Customer Service this letter with copies of your attachments and you WILL get satisfied.

FYI - - next time try Amazon for your electronics - no hassle, no tax, even bigger selection with reviews.

Hello,

They had staed that it was the Sony Service center in California, but I have no documentation to prove this.

Would they even lie about that ? why?

Are you sure it was sent to Sony and not to Best Buy's service center? Were you supplied with documentation from Sony? Best Buy does lie.
