I signed up with this company a few months ago.  I have been reading the reviews that state that people have been communicating with their counselor on a daily basis.   At times, it was 3 or 4 days before my counselor would answer my email/question.  Then on 4/10/15, I sent her an email asking a specific question.  On 4/11/15 I see there is an email from her and I opened it.  Imagine my surprise when in the email my counselor is berating me and better yet, berating me for something I DIDN'T do.  I sent her an email through yahoo (long story short - we exchanged yahoo email addresses because she was sending me pdfs and it was easier for me to get them through yahoo), it got sent to her 6 times.

In her email, she never once asked me if I knew what happened (why she received the email 6 times).  She never investigated/researched the problem herself before sending me the scathing email she did.  She just ACCUSED me of "going too far" and "infringing on her boundaries".  I couldn't believe it!  A COUNSELOR who is suppose to be there to HELP me, and she is acting this way!  Multiple emails being sent from yahoo is a known issue!  All you have to do is Google it and find out for yourself.  Even if she didn't Google it, she never once in the email asked me if I knew what had happened.

I replied to her email and sent proof that this is a Yahoo issue.  I told her that she is playing with people’s emotional and mental health and that it's not a game.  Things she says and does could possibly push people with fragile egos/psyches over the edge.  I had never once infringed on her time or her boundaries. Even if someone did send her multiple emails, shouldn't that tell her - a TRAINED counselor that perhaps someone desperately needed her help/advice?

Her email also stated that she works two jobs and she doesn't have the time for this.  OK, IF YOU CAN'T DO TWO JOBS - YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TWO JOBS, and especially NOT a job that deals with people’s mental and emotional well-being.  I believe the real issue is that she took this job at Betterhelp for quick money (as a part time second job) and because I wasn't a "one email" quick fix, and she actually had to invest some time in me that she was irritated that I was taking up too much of her time.

An email every 3 or 4 days is NOT taking up too much of her time. If she didn’t have time for me, or if my case was too challenging then she owed it to me to tell me so I could have asked to be placed with another counselor. I don’t know how Betterhelp screens the counselors before they hire them, but from my experience (have email to back this up), this person is NOT counselor material.

I know everyone is different and some might look at this online counseling jobs as a great part time job and not take it seriously.  I hope that those are few and far between. I know that some people have written on here that they do not beleive there are real counselors with real educations behind them. Please do not feel discouraged, because I can at least verify one. My husband is and has just started up taking clients. He is very active and keeps his email alerts through text messages for when he gets notification of an email or new client possible that he has been matched with. He is very serious with his counseling and has had years behind him. He does not believe in keeping people "on the hook" by making them come back for months and months and months, the goal has forever been his as get them back to healthy and happy and solid. So, as I can not speak for all those that are on the sight, I hope that I was a little help and there are some solid counselors there really looking to help.

Take care.
