My husband and I were looking to rent an apartment for 2.5 months in NYC.  We were  listed in Sublet.com.  A member of Big Apple Living contacted us through this organization.  

We looked them up they seemed reputable, we rented for $3700 plus $750 fee and cleaning fees for that time. Plus $1600.00 down the agent name Ran.

We arrived the 16th of May to stay through to July 31st.  However, when we arrived, there was a terrible smell of smoke. I was told the apartment would be smoke free which is stated in our lease.

We also, had no towels to use.  When I advised Ran who was not there then on holiday for 3 weeks of this problem, they referred me to the manager Eva.  She looked for other apartments that I could move too she did get me two new towels.  

She sent me to an apartment on E 44th which had no kitchen it cost us $25. Cab fee back and forth.  We needed a kitchen and had requested elevator building too.  Then she sent us to another apartment with another agent Jason to see one on west side, I liked it and said we would take it at same price he said good.  Then a few days later she gave it to someone else.  She told me they were working on another apartment to clean up it would be another 2 weeks . I had to stay in this smoke filled apartment, by then our refrigerator no longer worked I lost over $150.00 food and had to use the freezer for the coldness that wasn't working either, also repairs had to be made to air conditioner at this time . None was begin fixed she abused us and I am was very upset. I called an Attorney from a free organization he said to just let it go it will only be another month.  They  also, have our deposit and I didn't trust them to give it back.

The only apartment she had was across the street with 16 steps a one bedroom so I was in a sense forced to take it.  The stairs are a big problem to me as I have arthritic knees, I have a letter from my doctor assessing this. Eva, told me I would hear from Ran about moving out of the existing apartment across the street, the price was now increased to $300 to $4000.She told me I would know of the move shortly, I finally called Ran he was unavailable and told me movers would arrive the next day no notice to this  from anyone.  However, the mover arrived in the morning with unbeknown to my husband and I when I called Eva about this she was surprised Ran never told me. 

My husband had to get a piece of equipment to move boxes across the street.the mover had nothing to move it with.

The new apartment has a stove you have to light a match too and to start the oven.  There were no coffee cups with the dishes.  I had to buy them and a toaster as the kitchen was incomplete too.  To  start I the oven-and cook in it one has to use a pan there is none there nor would she provide one to us.

 The air-conditioner broke on the second week and took them two days to come back to put a smaller one in the window and promised to bring a bigger better one in.  Never did this, the curtain the way the man left it started to burn and I caught the fire to put out.  The front door has no alarm and the door is hard to open i have reported this to the Housing Authority.As letting Eva know about this she does nothing.    The other door to the entrance has a hard opening very heavy and hits you in the head to knock you out of the building i am going to Pt for an injuring to my head in April and am afraid of this door.

I have advised Eva of all these issues and I feel she needs to address these issues.   However, she said she has fixed what she wants too .  And will not fix  anythign till i pay the rent for July.  I haw never been treated or taken adantage of by any other landlord or would i treat my tenants like this in my home that i rent in La Jolla Ca.

 This  rental has been a terrible problem dealing with this management group.   I am reporting her to disability  and Housing Court shortly.  She is threatening to Evict us if we don't pay July rent.

This is the worst time I have ever had in renting from a management company here in NYC.I own a business in California and have rented from other companies and have never had a problem with them.

I feel that others should not work with Big Apple Living as they have very  bad business ethics and are unethical towards their temporary tenants.
