Today, January 3, 2007, I went to purchase a DVD movie, "Time Warriors" from the Big Lots in Central Anaheim, California, on the corner of State College and Lincoln.

The price tag read $4.99. However, when Albert, the cashier, scanned the DVD, it read $7.99.

Albert said he could give to me at the sticker price. He said he would have to charge me the scanned price.
The mistake was made at the store level, not by a customer.

Albert refused to sell me the DVD at the price on the price tag, instead, he just threw the DVD aside, and would not discuss it anymore.

Price Overrides are not to be used unless clearly stated by a manager or CSS. In the case the price did not ring up correctly, you should have simply asked to see the manager. If he said he was the manager, ask to see the CSS.

If it rang up a DVD, the CSS could have went and checked the price. If it was correct, they could have then gave the ok to do the price override.

Most of the time, the CSS just say's go ahead if it's a item under $25.00 and the item description fit's what your buying.

Sorry for the trouble!

biglots liar

AUTHOR: Waryguy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 29, 2009

to the person from Biglots who claims price overriding is against policy....lol..I as a store manager for Biglots was told to price override...unless it was an obvious scam...everyday I was instructed by the district manager to override...just make the customer happy...etc etc...lol...
dont ever let the customer leave angry. Biglots always lies about its policy.and they treat their managers like crap. And they falsify records, and employee status.
and they falsify inventory numbers. and they allow employee theft to occur without doing anything. and they allow the stores security cameras to go unworking for months because they claim they cant afford new ones....
and those 'security calls' they always make?...laughable.Biglots does not have security. period.I have pictures and proof of these claims if anyone is interested. I have filed a lawsuit against them, and they will lose , like they always do.
They can't treat people this way.
and a hint: if you want 20% off your entire purchase...all you have to do is wait until each ad comes out...find something they dont have...(which occurs every week)..and demand your 20% off your entire purchase coupon.....they dont tell people about this other than super small print way up on a high sign...use this.I save money all the time this way...its not doing anything wrong..if you know where to look, it is the policy!

You Can't Just Do A "Price Override".

AUTHOR: Darryl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Overriding a price is a serious violation of our company policy. It is considered stealing, and is a terminable offense.

The reason your problem occurred was most likely:

The ticket was switched. Our registers display the description of the item when it is scanned. We use Store Keeping Units, and the small detachable stickers with barcodes. This stickers are easily removed and replaced. One of our biggest issues is misplaced stickers. This happens either intentionally, by a customer wishing to get the item at a lower price; or unintentionally, by a stocker mistakenly placing the wrong sticker on an item.

Either way, the company is at no obligation to sell the item at the sticker price. A price tag is an invitation to treat, and it is in no way a binding contract.

Get a manager to do a price check.

AUTHOR: Jamie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 25, 2007

I work at a Big Lots store and all you had to do was get a manger or css to do a price check. I have never seen an item ring up higher then the ticketed price {only cheaper if on sale} at our store but if this is what happened they could have easily fixed the problem for you. We do price checks anytime the customer says the price did not match and the only time you should not get the ticketed price is if the ticket was put on the item by a dishonest customer {ticket switchers} a simple price check to see what all the same items on the shelf were ticketed at would have solved this situation instead of you taking Alberts word as the absolute law of all Big Lots stores next time ask for a manager. Albert would have probably gotten a write up for his rude behavior if it was reported to his manager.

Where was the MANAGER???? This was an INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEE RIP-OFF!

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 03, 2007

Sounds like to me you had a problem with an individual employee wanting to get some spending cash for the upcoming holidays. Or maybe he needed some drug or booze money.

It happened to me at Wal-Mart.I got the ( expletive deleted) fired and IF I need something BADLY, I MIGHT shop there if the 24-hour Target store doesn't have it.

You should have insisted to see the manager THEN AND THERE!

They would have made it right. At least in the TEXAS Big Lots stores where I shop because I am a regular customer and I have given good advise on merchandising which was well-taken and they made money.

There is a price override key on there and OLD AL knew about it. He should have overridden the bar code price and typed in the marked price.

Unless the manager was in on it with him, the manager should have told him to make up the difference.

Which brings me to another point --How come you didn't shop at Half-Price Books or a similar used book, video, recordings, etc. store instead of a Big Lots?

Ours here has DVDs for $2.00 or less!

Big Lots is for school supplies, furniture, storage containers, toys, cleaning supplies, some electronics, decorative items, outdoors items, etc.

Family Dollar occasionally has some good discount DVDs, same supplier as Wal-Mart has.

Thou shallt know thy store wherein thou wants to shoppeth and Thou willt NOT get ripped off!

In a word, there are a lot better places to buy DVDs than Big Lots.

I would NOT hold an entire store actionable for what one IDIOT did.

I would definitely go to the BigLots web site and REPORT what he did on there, if I were you.

Probably Al the Crook has already quit or been fired.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Did you ask for the manager?

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 05, 2007

I am pretty sure that they have to honor that price, and that had a manager known what was going on, he/she would've rectified the situation. That's what I would've done. I am really disappointed, in general, in the declining state of customer service in America today.
