Bill Zinke finally responds and is spewing more of his BS! This guy never stops! Note how he doesn't actually offer a rebuttal to any of the accusations against him.

If you take the time to read the other reports, everyone pretty much nails it. Bill Zinke is a deplorable human being and the dichotomy of the HR professional he claims to be. He gives new meaning to each word someone has used to describe him. Belittling? Yes. Abusive? Cannot even begin to describe. Unethical. Inpatient. Offensive. Insulting. Demeaning. Narcissistic. Sexist. Racist. Accusatory. Unforgiving. Monopolizer of employees personal time, lunch, etc. And yes, his gas/flatulence problem can bring water to your eyes. 

He operates under the guise of The Center for Productive Longevity, a "nonprofit," that in the few years it has been active has done very little in terms of making a difference. He is an 85-year-old man who wants people to m********e his ego. You are not hired to think, you are hired to do. You are hired to question him at anytime, it is best to not say much of anything. You receive a paycheck in exchange for being his slave available for floggings whenever he doesn't get his way in the world. If you drop your boundaries, he will destroy your self-esteem.

Someone posted something about a list with over 100 employees, it's true. The list exists. He's done everything from firing someone with cancer (and telling her that she could continue to be on the insurance, only to drop her a week later) to making someone move closer (or else she'd lose her job) and then fired her two days before Christmas (even after she had moved!). Every person who has ever tried to file an unemployment claim, he has fought them. He misrepresents what the job is. You will not do research, you will not work with Fortune 1000 companies, you will not do anything other than type his emails, which he DOES write out in his cryptic longhand. Then, on average, you will revise each email 3-7 
times. Sometimes the revision is simply a comma. You will go through almost a ream of paper a week. "Why," you ask, "If they're emails?" Because you have to print out each email and each revision that is made. If the Pony Express still existed, Bill Zinke would have more faith in that system, than the employee operating the computer at his/her desk.

Every warning that has been made is not exaggerated. He'll pay you well. He'll promise you bonuses (then ask for them back or accuse you of stealing them). He'll do just enough to keep you chained to your desk and this man will make you nuts. His senility, which he is in full denial of, seeps into everything that you will do. He will accuse you of not doing your job, because he forgot that you actually did it. He misplaces letters, emails, reports, etc, but then blames you because he can't find it. The way he talks to you, it is not nice, it is not even ambivalent. 90% of the time he is talking to you with pure spite in his voice. The way he looks at you is as if you are the dumbest person on Earth. And sometimes you'll say something that you are positive of and he'll ask, "Are you sure?" as if to say, "How could you possibly know! I went to Amherst and Columbia!" But this is the same man who does NOT know how to use a computer, REALLY, that is why YOU will have the privilege of typing his emails.  

He will expect you to work overtime without ever paying you for it. (You will work 45-50 hours/week). He will ask you to take a "short lunch" everyday (average lunch is 20-30 minutes), but then he'll go out for 2 hour lunches and yell at you when he gets back because he's so far behind, AND THEN want you to work overtime to get more of his emails out. He'll summons you to his office (with an intercom system), then you'll stand in his doorway for 5-20 minutes (maybe even longer!) while he revises his emails. No, you're not doing anything else, but standing there waiting. He'll explain revisions to you like you are a child, he reads things out loud to you that you really could read/figure out on your own. He'll ask you for your opinion, then belittle you for it. You'll give great ideas, he'll disregard them, a couple of hours later he'll adopt the ideas as his own. Trust me, you'll never get due respect or credit. EVER. 

This is a description of a day with Bill Zinke: Print out emails, stamp them received, give them to Bill, wait for him to give you his handwritten response to emails, type the responses, print them out, stamp them DRAFT, give them back to Bill. Usually around this point he'll need to yell at someone, most likely it will be you. It could be any random thing, so be prepared, 99% chance it is something he screwed up but will blame you. Go back to typing emails. Intercom rings, you will be summoned to his office and it will smell like a dead corn in there (hold your breath). Repeat this process about 10 times throughout the day and that is your day until 6:00 or so, or whenever he undoes the padlock on the door and allows you to leave. 

I post this to back-up the other reports about this man. Avoid working for him or dealing with him. Do not collaborate. Do not give him money. Do not attend his meetings, you will live to regret it. 

I cannot stress it enough: DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT (x 1000!) get involved with William K. Zinke, Center for Productive Longevity, or Human Resource Services Inc. in Boulder Co. Your sanity will thank you.

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Judy Hartl, and I worked with  Bill Zinke for about seven years when his management consulting firm was located in New York City. 

Working with Bill was a challenge because his standards were high, partly because of his legal background but more because he was building a consulting practice that entailed working with senior executives in major companies who expected a high quality of work.  Along with myself, there were three additional support staff.  I can speak for all of them who felt as I did, and most of these girls were also with Bill for approximately the same length of time.

I thought I had excellent skills when Bill hired me, but learned a great deal from working with him and only left because I remarried.  I now live in Florida and still have fond memories of working with Bill.  If fact, we still exchange Christmas cards after 26 years, and he has visited my husband and me in Florida.

I am happy to put my name on this posting.

To the Posters:

I have read all of the postings and believe some have validity. I am reminded of the Chinese riddle, which some of you have heard me quote:
QWhat is the biggest room in the world?
AThe room for improvement.
This applies to me, as it does to all of us.

There are parts of the postings that are absolutely untrue, for example that nobody stays beyond a short period and that I accept advice from nobody. The Office Manager is really an essential part of CPLs ongoing success. He has worked with me for more than 2 years, has received three substantial salary increases and three substantial bonuses because his work is consistently excellent. I frequently seek his advice and frequently accept his suggestions. He has traveled with me to four meetings (in one made the announcement that we would create a LinkedIn account for meeting participants at their request) and is a real colleague. 

During the past four years, my long period of good health has caught up with me. They began with a severe case of shingles, followed by a fractured hip from which I am now almost fully recovered through the great support of a wonderful physical therapist, two angioplasties, and a hernia operation. What has sustained me is my motto Strength in Adversity, and that same motto also sustains me through the travails of Rip-off Reports, which clearly show room for improvement.

I suspect there is room for all of us to improve.

Note: One point I would like to make clear is that, despite the popular conception that people beyond 80 are over the hill and out of the game, I and the Center for Productive Longevity are going strong. I leave on March 16 for a busy week in Europe and may be making a trip to the Asia Pacific in April. CPL is making a difference in stimulating the substantially increased engagement of people 50 and older in productive activities, paid and volunteer, where they are qualified and ready to continue adding value. One important attribute, of course, is a positive attitude and an optimistic spirit.

The reports regarding Bill Zinke are dead on accurate. That was the most abusive environment I have ever worked in and would tell anyone I meet to stay clear of this guy. All the allegations that are reported on here are 100% accurate.

How he is able to stay in business is beyond me. He is simply a ruthless tyrant!

I am very pleased to see the numerous rip off reports and reviews on Bill Zinke. The truth about Bill Zinke is not just that he is an elitist, but an egoist; in my view, an out-of-touch, holier-than-thou man who truly believes in his heart that he is better than most people on the planet.

It is bad enough that he labels his employees "servants". He has a disdain for people who make less than $250,000 annually. It is my contention that he believes people who are not white are lesser people. It is also my contention that he considers women to not be equal to men. Anytime he has included a woman or "minority" in an event, he says he does so in the spirit of diversity, but I believe he only does it to further his own agenda. 

Is he a product of the era he was raised in? Perhaps. I could go on and on, but the various reports on Bill Zinke spell out his world perfectly. The type of thinking, the way he runs a business, and the way he treats people is not sustainable in the 21st century, and any success he has is in spite of, rather than because of, the way he works.
