I decided to try Blu Hanya Tattoo for a piece I wanted to get done.  They said that I had to put down a 20% deposit (which was a lot because it was a large piece), and that I couldn't get it done that day.  So I made an appointment for the next week.  I get a call a week later saying that my appointment had been double booked and that it would be another week minimum before I could get back in.

The problem with all this is that I had limited time to get it done.  I am in the military, and had a lull in training that allowed me to get my tattoo done in this two week span.  I had many conversations with someone who was acting as their receptionist rather than Lucky (the owner) himself.  Allegedly he had a headache and couldn't take time out of his busy weekend to address my concerns.

The shop said that the deposit was both non-refundable and non-transferrable.  I am not debating this.  But the deposit, in my view, was for the protection of the shop in case they make an appointment, and the client cancels.  This isn't what happened though, they screwed up and cancelled my appointment, and when I decided that I just wanted my money back because of their mistake, they tried everything they could to have me come another time.

I gave them suggestions to fix the problem in a way that I would be ok with.  But they kept trying to force me into a situation that wouldn't work for me.  Three days after hearing that my appointment had been double booked, they called me and said that I could come somewhere close to the same time my original appointment was.

After all the going back and forth and frustrated conversations from both sides, I was extremely uninterested in going to a tattoo shop that would permenantly ink my body.  Not only could I not trust them to keep their word and actually have me be seen at the new time, I don't want them touching me with a needle.  That's all I need is to have someone do a crappy job just because I wouldn't bend to what they wanted.

When it comes to something like a tattoo, you need the experience to be positive.  I shouldn't have to sit for 5 hours somewhere worrying if they are doing an average job.

As it stands, the owner, through his receptionist, stated that because they had reinstated my appointment time, they wouldn't give me my money back.  I don't know how they think that I could have in good concious allowed them to tattoo me when they can't even keep a date book correct.
