We were looking to trade in our SUV for a smaller, more gas efficient car. We went to Bob's Dodge in Naugatuck CT. After speaking with the owner, we were given advice that it would be best to give our car up in our bankruptcy (which we were going through at the time) and that if I had a relative who would help us and sign a loan, they would be able to get us a car.

So, we asked a relative to sign on the loan until our credit was better where we could take over the loan. After they agreed, we took the car for the weekend (around July 4th weekend) after driving it for a few days, we noticed that the car bucked when stopping. So we called the dealer and told them that they needed to fix EVERYTHING that was wrong with the car before we would buy it. They told us that they would fix our car 100% to our satisfaction and if it was not fixed, we did not have to take the car. So we gave them the car which they had for about 4 weeks. They said they were trying to find the problem but could not find anything wrong.

We never told them we wanted to take the car but the payments started on it even though they had not kept their word. We even got in writing a "Promise to fix" which they have to this day to follow thru on. Our car has been in and out of the service shop since we bought it and were told over and over again, there was nothing wrong with it. We contacted the Department of Motor Vehicles for their help. They opened an investigation into this issue and a few weeks later, we were told that they had sided with the dealer and that they had done everything possible to find our issues.

We took our car to a VW dealer in CT on Nov 21, 08. The dealer found numerous issues that were wrong with our car and it was said that our car was unsafe to drive and that they couldn't believe a dealer would even sell this car to a person. Now these are all issues that the dealer who went over our car, said we could not have created or done to the vehicle in the short amount of time we have owned it. There are thousands of dollars in repairs needed on this car and Bob's Dodge has done nothing to try to make this situation better. All we ever got was that there was nothing wrong with our car and that we were imaging the issues we were dealing with.

Funny how you take it to a reputable organization and they find all these things that the original dealer couldn't find! I feel taken advantage of and that because we trusted these people; they fully took advantage of us. When we tried to ask them to give us another car, they jacked up the price on it and tried to sell us a car with higher payments. The owner told us that he had to show a profit or the finance company wouldn't allow the trade. You would think they would have worked with us to try to settle this for us but instead, they tried to rip us off even further.

I would never, ever go to this dealer again! They can't be trusted and with people losing jobs and the economy so bad, you really need to be extra careful of dealers like this!!

Response to dealers rebuttal

AUTHOR: Ripped-off - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 05, 2009

I speak on behalf of the owner of this vehicle (who will also be responding to your complaint via this website and a phone call to your dealership) Who purchased/owns this vehicle has nothing to do with any of the complaints. Our complaint was that we went to you with our issues and looked to your dealership to fix the problems that were wrong with this car and after months and months of getting know where with your dealership, we were forced to bring it to another dealer and pay for the repairs out of pocket. The owner of this vehicle did contact you and you told her that there was nothing further you could do. The VW dealer you took our car too had our car for a month when we first purchased and it sat on the lot. You refused to take this to another dealer that is well known saying it was too far. Why is it that this other dealer we brought our car to found all of the problems with the car but the dealer where you would only allow us to bring our car could find nothing? We're not looking to spread lies, we're looking for the truth to be exposed but you continue to respond to these posts saying we're lying and that you have had problems with us posting other comments on the internet. Why is it also that there are at least three or four other complaints about Country Motors/Bob's Dodge (two different locations) on this website but you only respond to ours? You know we are telling the truth and are trying to defend yourselves against something that you can not defend but we are speaking only the truth. We aren't mean or spiteful people in any way. We're customers who came to you looking for help and for truthful and honest people to give us a good car. If we had driven out of your lot with a good car that did not need thousands of dollars in repairs, we would not be on here. We also wouldn't be on here if you had fixed those issues.

We're sorry it has come down to this back and fourth rebuttal of he said/she said. If your company would like to correct these mistakes, you should have started by doing that the first time we came to you and needed all of this work done. Like stated in a previous post, we have receipts and back up to prove all of the work done to the car and by a reputable mechanic. Also, we have a list of numerous items that the specified VW dealer found wrong with our car. All itemized and listed with a repair quote next to each item. We've contacted you about these repairs in Nov of last year with your response being that you had done enough to try to fix the issues at hand.

Again, we're sorry you continue to defend your wrong doing in this case. Please be assured that the owner of this vehicle will be in contact and we'll see how this can be resolved once she has contacted you. If it is a favorable outcome, we will gladly rescind our posts on this site or write a favorable outcome. We're just looking for what is right and fair!!

Dealers Rebuttel

AUTHOR: Juan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 04, 2009

Please be advised that the poster of this complaint is jnot the acctual purchaser of the vehicle. Both the GM and I would be happy to discuss any complaints directly with the owner of this vehicle.

We have had problems with the person making these internet postings, however we have not heard directly from the vehicle owner. Again we have no problem dealing directly with the direct owner of the vehicle.

I look forward to that communication. At that point, we would certianly be willing to address any relevent complaints. As we have stated, customer safisfation is very important here at Bob's Dodge.

Dealership did not do everthing possible.

AUTHOR: Rippedoff - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 03, 2009

Dealer states they did everything possible to fix this car - Completely UNTRUE! You state that we have not been truthful in our statements to Rip-off Report?? Why would we have any reason to lie about any of this? You are just a horrid car dealer service looking to cover your butt and no matter what you write on here and how many times you write it and say we are lying, you all know you did not do everything possible to fix the car in question. You have made incorrect statements below as well: we never asked for any cosmetic repairs to be made to this car. Furthermore, we did not ask for any splash guards or dust covers to be replaced. We asked that you replace the "HEAT SHIELD" that had fallen off while driving. You did replace our heat shield but not well. Just a few months ago, your repair job fell off the car. When we had it replaced (at our own expense much as all the other repairs needed to make this car safe to drive) we found out that your service dept had attached the heat shield with zip ties. Interesting that once again, another part on this car was attached with zip ties. I believe the CV joint was also attached with zip ties. Who attaches a CV boot to a car with zip ties?

You have never spoken with the other VW dealer we took our car to. This was a dealership we brought our car to and paid all of the expense out of pocket. Your dealership was not involved!! We asked you repeatedly to take our car to this specific location but you refused! We spoke to the service manager at this particular location who did in fact say our car was unsafe and they could not believe a dealer would ever let a car off the lot with these issues. They found (as well as another well know, established mechanic) that our car was unsafe and even looked like it had been in an accident. We have paper work on all of this to back up every single word so I am not sure how you can say we are lying?! We also called your dealership and requested service orders for the work you had done to our car and at which time you told us you would not provide those work orders to us. I believe, under law, you are required to provide those to a customer who requests their own work orders. You couldn't give them to us because you never fixed our car. You would have had to create false documents which is why you wouldn't give us any documentation.

In addition to your already false statements, you say we refused to return a loaner car to you. This is such a lie! We returned every car (more than one seeing as our car visited your shop every week because you continued to not fix the problems) We received multiple loaner cars from you with empty gas tanks but always returned them to you with full tanks and cleaner then when given to us. The only time we could not return a car the same day you would call would be because we lived an hour from your shop and couldn't get up there. Not a refusal to return a car! Glad you can twist words around to make yourselves look better! At NO point in time did your dealership ever drive us to our home or fill up the gas tank!! You did have someone drop our car off at our home but you never drove us home and then filled up our tank. If you are going to throw out comments, you should probably make sure they are correct which most everything in your rebuttal is not!

This dealership DID NOT do everything possible to make us happy. If they had, we wouldn't be on rip-off report going back and fourth with them about their false, untrue statements. You can continue to write untrue statements and say we're lying but those who were involved with this particular situation know that not all was done to fix this situation and you took advantage of people who came to you for help. Customers who read this need to be aware that you are a dealership who takes advantage of people and lies and says whatever you need to get them in the door. Customers also need to be aware that even though they may have written "promise to fix" documents from dealers, it does not mean the dealer will fix a thing. In the end, this dealer did not fix our car and we drove around for months with a car that was unsafe. At any time in the months following our purchase, the cv boot on this car could have fallen off leaving us in a very dangerous situation. We spend thousands of dollars out of pocket to fix issues that the dealer promised to fix and never did. Almost a year later, our car is finally fixed and better then ever but to no thanks to this dealer. Consumers be aware, if there was ever a company to not trust, this dealer would be it. I wish our experience would have been different! I would love to be able to say we enjoyed our experience with this dealer and they did everything to make us happy but unfortunately, I can not.

You know exactly who we are!

AUTHOR: Hercules - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 02, 2009

In reponse to your rebuttal:

It is complete lies! You know exactly who I am and you know exactly what vehicle you sold to us in horrid condition that you refused to fix. It was reported MANY, MANY times to you that multiple items were wrong with the car but you refused to fix and what you did fix was done incorrectly and held on with zip ties. The vehicle was sold to us with so many safety issues!! The car could have killed us with the specific issues that were wrong but your company didn't care and told us that you spent too much money trying to fix a car that had nothing wrong with it. Your service's departments idea of fixing a car is to attach a CV joint with a zip tie... Who does that?

You can't defend yourselves because you know you are wrong and did nothing to correct the issues at hand.

RESPONSE TO COMPLAINT

AUTHOR: Juan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 26, 2009

I am writing you in response to your complaint. We at Bob's Dodge take all complaints very seriously. We have been unable to pull up any information based on the very limited information given in this complaint.

I noticed that you claimed that you went to a VW dealer to get the repairs made to your vehicle. We only had 2 VW purchases in the time frame of this complaint. Netiher of those customer made any complaints about vehicle safety. I also noticed that you did not list you name on this report, nor do we have any records of you submitting any information to us from this other dealership. Furthermore, you stated in this report that you are from Norwalk neither of our VW purchasers were from Norwalk.

Nevertheless, we would like to see all of the listed repairs from the VW dealer that you went to.

Once this is recived, we will be able to respond with facts and not speculation. We take all complaints seriously, and from the little information gathered here you never notified us of any serious problems with your vehicle.

Juan
