Hi,

I was travelling in the USA in the month of November, 2015 and I was moving around pretty quick and I needed to check my emails from time to time. On November 12th I was at Newark Liberty Airport and I decided to try the Boingo $4.98 half-price promotion for 30 days if internet service. I was online for about 2 hours.

On November 14th I logged in at St. Louis airport and my credit card was immediately charged $7.95 but I did not know the source of the charge at the time because I was roaming from my base in China and it is not easy to contact my Chinese bank while overseas because the on-hold time can be very long when you consider the time-zone differences (night time in China.)

On November 15th my credit card was charged $7.95.

On November 16th my credit card was charged $7.95.

When I was finally able to call my bank and see why I keep getting rung up for $7.95 every day, they told me that the charges were coming from PayPal. Now, this really alarmed me because the global idea is that PayPal adds a layer of protection and security between you those who might wish to deprive you of your hard earnings.

I browsed my Paypal accoounts and I was astonished to see that the charges were from Boingo and I was equally dumbfound as to how they did it at all. I only ordered a $4.98 package once and it's not like this was a renewal because from beginning to end all of the charges were taken over a period of 4 days only for services that I did not order or request, except the initial order.

Getting Serious...

I contacted PayPay and filed an Unauthorized Transaction Ticket against Boingo. I waited a couple of days and I did not hear anything. Then I checked my PayPal ticket status and was shocked to see that my investigation was already "Closed" with 'no further action' pending. This is insane. I called a PayPal customer service and some rep who sounded like he was in India or somewhere told me that he was not authorized to oopen this case because it was closed already.

So, this is simply a bold and blatent theft. I cannot even call it a deception or mis-leading or fine-print blah blah blah. And now I am very concerned about the relationships that PayPay builds with heavy users of their services, because PayPay was certainly not interested in talking with little ole' me about their star client Boingo.

And how do get my money back? I think that Paypal being in bed with Boingo has a nice ring to it. What do you think?

Thanks for reading
