In 2016, Brian Keleman, a male in his 30s located in San Diego, California, set up a meeting with me. He runs a marketing / consulting business that helps attorneys with an online marketing campaign to reach addiitonal clients. After discussing the parameters of the campaign with him (namely the specific area of law I practice and the location as well as my target audience), he made a number of promises to adhere to those and gave a money-back guarantee. I recall him specifically stating that a family member was a district attorney so he knows better than to rip off a lawyer.

After setting up a sham online marketing campaign, I didn't get one proper lead, and he kept blaming me. First, he stated that I needed to have a white man on the home page of my site. This was phony, as I am neither a white man nor do I have one working in my office. It was also unnecessary. He insisted on this and said he needed to do it for his campaign to work. He wrote without my consent that cases start at $497. I work on fairly serious matters, and this was just a lie. After he promised a number of leads each week, my first and only lead the first MONTH came from North Dakota. I don't practice there and am not licensed to give out advice for N.D. case. I did take the time out to assist this individual in locating the right bar association but this was not a lead. This sort of thing happened for a couple more months. We would have calls where I would tell him that these were not leads. For example, I don't work on parole hearings in Sacramento. I don't handle any cases where people's lives are on the line for $497. And most importantly, I dont -- as he insisted I should -- make false promises on my calls, e.g., that I can win the case. This would be a violation of ethical rules, and rather than learning from an attorney telling him this, he insisted I was wrong because his other clients did so. I also told him that I practiced law with a conscience and to actually assist my clients, not to run a plea mill, and he appallingly criticized my business model.

After giving this a shot and getting between 2 leads (in total during one month) of this nature that were completely inappropriate, I promptly asked for my money back. This was a promise for a full refund written into the contract. He promptly DISAPPEARED.

He stopped responding to emails and phone calls and has no physical address for his business.

Promises (written in contract):

- 20 new leads a month

- 4-16 new clients a month

- $3250 for the first trial month with a money back guarantee

After seeing how that this was a sham and how inexperienced and unprofessional he was after the first month, I demanded my money back and he has disappeared.

To all attorneys, this is a sham. I fell for this because we had a friend in common, and he seemed like a kid who knew his way around internet marketing. He doesn't. He's a big talker that is unable to deliver. He is also dishonest. I learned, regretfully later, that he had a reputation in high school for portraying himself as a deejay and handing out other artists' CDs as his own. Shady and not trustworthy. Save your money.
