I called Broadway photo on March 23rd, 2008, to place an order for two items a camera, the Canon Digital Rebel Xti and a lens, the Canon ef 28 mm, f2.8.

I called back in an hour to cancel the order, before the order had been placed on my credit card. The sales person refused to, he advised there would be no charge for shipping. My complaint centers around these facts:
1. I was told during the original conversation with Broadway photo that I would receive an upgrade to Canon's battery charger. I have determined there is no upgrade to the charger included in the retail box; there model number is CB-2LW and that is what I was sent.
2.I was told I would receive an upgraded battery to the NB-2LH, what I received was a third party manufacturer's ( Power 2000)clone of the NB-2LH; this item has a retail value of $26.

3. Starting with Broadway Photo's listed price for the camera as $451.00, adding the cost of the Canon ef 28 mm, $175.00, f2.8, and the Power 2000 ACD-239 Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 900mAh) Replacement for Canon NB-2L & NB-2LH Battery @$26.00 my invoice total should have been $652.00.

4. Instead I was billed $959.00 plus $87.00 for a total of $1046.00

5. I am seeking a corrected invoice showing my total as $652.00 and a charge back to my debit card.

How Broadway Photo works...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 26, 2008

A while back, I was responding to a lot of Ripoff Reports on these guys and took a break. Since I keep seeing new reports, I thought I would chime in again.

Broadway Photo (or one of their aliases) tends to be placed rather prominently on search engine results. They offer a product at what is a very tempting price. The trick is that they will part out whatever was in the box. For example, let's take a look at the Nikon D300 which is currently a popular camera. You can get that camera for a little over $1600 for just the body.

Broadway Photo will advertise that camera for say... $1100. You'll see that in the search results and naturally want to click on that link. Since it seems like a good deal, you go ahead and buy it. When you call to confirm your order, you are offered accessories that come with the camera at vastly inflated prices. You're going to want a battery, right? Of course you will, since they removed the battery from the box and they will sell it to you for $85. Need a charger? Oh, we can sell that to you as well...not to mention the cables.

After all of the haggling, you will wind up paying more than what it would have cost to just buy the camera from a reputable dealer.

Now, how can you be sure that you are ordering from an honest merchant? I strongly suggest that you check the retailer out on www.resellerratings.com. Just for fun, here is the rating for Broadway Photo:

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Broadway_Photo

As you can see, they have a rank of barely over half a point with over 600 reviews. Not good at all. You may think that you can get one over on them and order just the body at the advertised price. That won't work- they will tell you that the item is out of stock or they will send you a grey market item. Good luck getting that repaired in the United States.

At the risk of plugging other retailers, I strongly suggest buying photo, video or audio needs at B&H or Adorama. They are great and the prices are about as low as legitimate sellers can offer. Cameta and Calumet are also good.
