I rented a Ford Taurus 2003 from Budget Car Rental on July 18, 2003 at Boston Logan International Airport, Boston, MA. The Budget staff asked me if I will bring the car back with full tank of gas in which I agreed to do so. When I received the car, the needle of the gas meter was just above three quarters. Believing the Budget staff was doing the right things, I just assumed this was the gas at full level and also this was the gas level that I will fill before bringing the car back.

Three days later I brought the car back with same original level of gas after filling full the car's gas tank at the corner of Adams St and Galloven Blvd, Dorchester, MA which is no more than 8 miles from Boston Logan International Airport. When the Budget staff checked the gas meter, he told me that gas tank was at three quarters and imposed a $22.95 charge to my bill. I argued that the gas level was the original level when I received the car. Also, all gas pumps makes a first stop at the level so the customers will not spill gasoline out.

One of the Budget staff asked me which location that I filled the gas tank. After hearing I said the location was Dorchester, MA, he lied to me by saying that Dorchester, MA was 20 miles from Boston Logan International Airport. In fact, the furthest distance between Dorchester, MA and Boston Logan International Airport is no longer than 10 miles.

Leaving me waiting there for awhile another staff called in her manager. I told the manager that the current gas level was the original gas level that I received the car. He lied to me by saying that his Budget car rental has been always filling up the gas tank until the gasoline spilling out. He brought in the car and fill two more gallons of gas until the gasoline was spilling out. At the point, the needle in the gas meter turned to four quarters.

However, when I showed him all cars available for rent at the site have their needles of gas meters at just above three quarters, he said that the gas tanks were at full level. After arguing for awhile he said that he must charge me three gallons of gas that costed $15.95. Since I also had other things to do that day, so I left that Budget office.

Above was my unforgetable experience with Budget car rental. I would like to post here so others can avoid it in the future. The ripoff may be just $15.95, but thousands of customers have been ripoff each years by Budget and other car rentals.
