Budget Car rental are cheats and have the worst customer support I have ever seen.

No wonder the company did not survive by itself and was taken over by Avis.

I booked a oneway rental from Ohare on 7th June, the booking was done through expedia where I had declined the insurance. Also when I picked up the rental car I was told to sign in places to decline the insurance. The cheat/lady at the counter repeatedly told me that I was declining the insurance and that I would not be covered, which I agreed to as I have my own car insurance.

To my surprise, I was charged insurance and when I contacted them they said that I signed for it. I agree I should have read what I sign for, but these cheats keep you engrossed in words while you sign for something other than they are telling.

After contacting customer support, drop off location (as it was oneway) and even the Ohare area manager, all are covering up their location staff by saying "You have signed it"

I beleive that the insurance coverage is a major source of income for their goal and that is why they all team up to protect this misleading practice resulting in this fraud.

I will be taking up this matter with BBB, but I suggest all those who rent, to read what you are signing for very carfully to avoid paying extra.

Case Description: The associate asked me to sign in places circled saying I am declining insurance, but she actually made me sign...

(More) The associate asked me to sign in places circled saying I am declining insurance, but she actually made me sign to accept rental insurance and charges On 7th June, I rented a car from budget Ohare. The booking was through expedia for a oneway rental form Ohare to Bloomigton for $179 (Declining extra coverages).

At the pickup location, the budget associate asked me if I was sure to decline the insurance, and confirmed the same thrice. I explained to her very clearly that my personal car insurance from GEICO covered rental vehicles also and that I did not need any extra coverage from Budget.

Then the associate circled three places on the contract which she asked me to sign, and without giving me a chance to read the contract she kept explaining to me that by signing in these places, I am declining insurance coverage and that any liablities will not be covered by budget in case of any accidents. She kept repeating this atleast thrice till the time I was done signing all the place she asked me to.

When I dropped the vehicle at Bloomigton airport location, the final charge was $219. When I asked the associated at the dropoff location why I was charged $219 instead of the $179 that I had booking for, she told me that she was not sure why. And on asking for my contract paper, I was told it was shreaded. This was within minutes of the rental return, they shreaded the contract. I was given a number to contact customer service.

The very same day I called budget customer service, and I was told to wait 48 hours as the record was not uploaded in their system.

Next I called expedia as I had booked through them. The expedia agent placed a call to budget customer support who told expdia that the charges were temporary hold and will get dropped off 2-3 business days.

After 2-3 days I noticed the charges were charged to my card instead of being dropped from pend. I called expedia again to check. Expedia agent again placed a call to budget customer support where budget said that the charges were dropped, and I should followup with my bank about the charges.

I checked with the bank and they said that the charges were charged by budget and nothing is pending from the banks end for action.

I called budget customer service again. And after two weeks of differnt reasons given, this the reason given was I had put my intials to accept insurance.

I was shocked to know this and I explained this is not possible, since I had clearly declined extra insurance coverages. And I did decline it thrice and that was in repsonse when the associate asked for coverage at time of pickup.

On explaining this, the customer serivce on the phone asked me if I had read the rental contract before signing. I explained to her that I signed in places where the associate asked me to sign while she kept verbally explaining the following 1. I was declining the extra coverages. 2. I have to return the vehicle full tank of gas 3. I have to return on or before noon the following day.

And while saying this she circled places on the contract where she asked me to put my intials.

The customer service, just rudely said that I had should not have place trust on the budget associate and should read the contract before signing.

This is the same answer I got on contacting the Area Manager. So I questioned him if Budget is not a trustworthy company, and is it common malpractice, he offered me a coupon for $30 for next rental with budget. I denied the coupon the coupon as I was charged $40 extra in Cash and was asked to settle for $30 in coupon which meant dealing with budget again. I do not wish to do any business with Budget again and so refused the coupon.

I am not the only one to be a victim of this malpractice, there are others who have reported similar experiences with budget on (((Redacted))) and www.ripoffreport.com

Category: Billing or Collection Issues

Case opened date: 06/25/2009

Desired Resolution: I want the refund which charged to me for extra coverages which I did not intend to buy at...

I GOT MY MONEY BACK AFTER THIS LONG DRAMA. I HOPE OTHER BENEFIT FROM THIS !!!! GOOD LUCK !!!
