When I attended BCTI I was 16 years old. I hadn't gotten my GED more than three weeks prior when I was hounded by a recruiter and not only myself but my step father were bullied and badgered to sign on the dotted line, we were lied to and were sold on the "year two" courses and were signing on the dotted line before we were told that we had to go through the first 7 1/2 months. so we tried it on the promise that once we finished year two we would be able to take the A+ and MCSE certification tests.

We found out after my 8th week that if we had decided not to attend before the beginning of our 8th week, we would not have been extended the grants or loans. convenient it seemed.

In my first module as they called it, I ended up doing most of the training due to the fact that the instructor that was there was no more useful than the product "the clapper", she was able to get in before us and turn everything on, after that it was up to the students to "discover the joys of technology" and for some of us that were more advanced we ended up teaching our class mates how to properly type, turn the computer on, log onto the networks, protect themselves against the love bug and melissa virus', etc.

I was on the directors list my first two mods, 100% attendance and 100% on my work. I looked forward to having one of the teachers in the third mod, his comment is listed here "http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/Adult-Career-Continuing-Education/Business-Computer-Tr/business-computer-training-ins-5Z8BZ.htm" but, he had chosen to transfer to mornings and I was stuck with an instructor that was not qualified to teach the mod, not to mention she was having "emotional difficulties due to her family life" and we ended up not receiving much of anything out of the course. In the forth mod it was not quite what we were told it was, and one of our people was sexually harrassed by the instructor, but did they fire her for that reason? NO! they fired her AFTER we were in our fifth mod due to "differenciating views" because she was a proud Wiccan.

At sixteen I was informed that I was not going to be taking any of the financial responcibility onto my credit, due to the fact that I was a minor... today I still have an outstanding Student loan balance of close to 3k and the interest is still going up... I did not come out with any more knowledge than I had when I went in and I had to be proactive to finding my own employment to the extent of being told by the employment services "Go to a temp agency and try with them" and that was as much help as I ever received. They never attempted to hold job fairs for our class, nor did they end up attempting to place any of our students, out of 30 people that ended that class, 2 had jobs, one in an secretarial field, the other was working at a bar. as for me, it took alot more time and alot more learning on my own to get into the field I wanted to be in... and I'm still on my path.

The other issue I had was that I was told that I could always go back and "learn the latest business software". But how many that are in my position actually want to go back to a place that couldn't teach me right the first time, what expectations should I have for the second? Not to mention my career councilor left half way through my term, I was informed that I would be asigned to someone else but never found out who... so to this day I am in debt, and have no "certifiable education".

I even had someone at mcdonalds laugh at me when I stated that I had went through BCTI. didn't even get that job...
