On 8 November 2011, buy.com sent out a "tweet" on twitter offering 20x points on all purchases made during the hour. Since I had been looking at purchasing a Nikon 5100 camera, I decided to look and see what kind of discount that would give me. I found the camera for $749 and calculated the points that would come out to $150 to spend on their website. So I purchased the camera and also applied for their Chase credit card offer to save another $75 on my first purchase (that I used on the camera).

I checked later to make sure I had the points and that the item was being shipped. Much to my surprise, I was only awarded the 749 points instead of the 20x 749. When I called a few hours after making the purchase, I was told that because I had the shopathome toolbar on my internet browser then I was not eligible for the 20x super points. (Shopathome toolbar would give me $50.) I could not find this anywhere on their website nor is it mentioned in the super points FAQs.

A supervisor named Shaun has emailed me and told me about this problem and refers to a link "http://www.buy.com/help/rakuten-super-points-program-faq/68874.html" which does not have anything about this. I understand their point and suggest they give me $100 to spend in the store when the points mature in 15 days and they said they will get back to me by the end of the day. Nobody calls.

Now 9 November 2011, I call and request again that someone call me to resolve my issue. Nobody has called me back again. Even though I cannot find the conflict that he references anywhere on their website, I would be willing for a settlement, but instead I'm getting emails and refusal to call me back.

We are writing in response to the report you filed with Buy.com.
 
As mentioned in the promotional banner of our 20x Super Points offer Super Points cannot be combined with any other cash back program.  Please also note, this disclaimer was posted in our help section when you completed your order.

As this promotional offer already rewarded our customers a generous 20x Super Points (20% cashback towards a future purchase), we did not allow other affiliate cashback offers to be combined.  Therefore, because you used an affiliate cashback offer, you did not receive 20x Super Points. 
 
We initially responded to you via email to further explain this matter.  By the time we received your response and request to have a customer service supervisor speak with you, our supervisors had left for the day.  However, I contacted you at my earliest opportunity the following day to discuss your concerns.
 
I further explained the reason that Buy.com does not allow cashback affiliate offers to be combined with Super Point promotions.  Additionally, we also discussed where the disclaimer for this restriction can be found and we agreed to make an exception by awarding you $100 in Super Points.  Your $100 in Super Points were immediately made available for you to redeem towards future orders. 
 
This response is to confirm that you received your $100 in Super Points, the $75 Chase Freedom credit, and your $50 cashback from your rewards provider.  Please contact our customer support team if you have any additional questions and I will be happy to address any of your concerns. 

Otherwise, we look forward to your future business and hope you will visit us again soon.
