DON'T BUY A CADILLAC ESCALADE EXT!!!!! I PURCHASED A 2005 ESCALADE FROM A CLOSE FRIEND (ONE OWNER) ABOUT A YEAR AGO! IT HAD 60,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAD NEVER TOWED ANYTHING. THREE DAYS AGO, AND WITH ONLY 8O,000 MILES ON THE IT, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED.
THE OFFICIAL CADILLAC DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSIS (AFTER 3 DAYS) WAS THAT THERE WAS NOTHING I DID TO CAUSE IT OR COULD HAVE DONE TO FIX IT, BUT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. THE CASE WAS OPENED WITH THE GM HEADQUARTERS AND FOR THREE DAYS I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE GOING TO FIND A WAY TO ASSIST ME WITH THIS, AND 5 MINUTES UNTIL 5PM ON FRIDAY NIGHT, THE HEADQUARTERS TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO ASSIST BECAUSE OF THE 'HIGH MILEAGE' AND THAT "THESE THINGS JUST HAPPEN TO CARS SOMETIMES." THE COST TO FIX IT IS $4500.00 THAT I JUST DON'T HAVE.

THIS IS A $70,000.00 CAR THAT DOESN'T LAST FOR $80,000 MILES. I AM GOING TO TAKE CADILLAC TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT, LOOK INTO STARTING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WITH ALL OTHER'S THAT HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM, AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CADILLAC. CADILLAC DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS AND OTHER MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY LIKELY NEVER PLANNED TO ASSIST ME, BUT JUST TOLD ME TO TOW THE TRUCK TO THEM FOR AN "OFFICIAL DIAGNOSIS" BECAUSE THEY WANTED ME TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THEM SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE THE MONEY ON THE REPAIR.

THIS IS AWFUL, DON'T TAKE A CHANCE, JUST BUY SOMETHING ELSE. IF ANYONE HAS HAD A SIMILAR OCCURRANCE, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME. THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS.

Used Vehicles are bought AS-IS

AUTHOR: Lee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Just for reference, I am a GM technician and have worked at Cadillac stores. There is not an ongoing problem with the transmission in the 05 Escalade EXT that I am aware of. As for the assistance request, GM quite often will assist the "original owner" of the vehicle even after the warranty expires. The warranty expired at 50,000 miles. For GM to assist, they want to review maintenance records on the vehicle. Generally, the transmission fluid is recommended to be replaced at 50,000 miles. Was this done? Did you provide documentation to the dealership? Was there an extended service contract on the vehicle? These are all some of the questions that have to be addressed. Generally, if it is a legitimate product issue and you are the original owner within a reasonable mileage after the expiration of warranty, GM will offer some sort of assistance. GM requests that a GM facility inspects the vehicle as they have the appropriate diagnostic equiptment, expertise, and procedures for the vehicle. Not so GM can make the money. I have been doing this over 25 years, and it is my experience that most manufacturers, not just GM, would not assist a used car purchaser at 80,000 miles on an engine or transmission repair as these are wearable items subject to maintenance, repair, and use factors.

transmission

How do you know the previous owner did all of the required maintenance on the Escalade before selling it to you?

Just because yours went bad doesn't mean all GM products are bad.

My Dad bought a $90K Lexus with his transmission going out at 8K miles. Does that mean all Lexus models are bad, no.

I hate to ask what you paid for a used Escalade with 80K miles on it.

Remember, IT IS A USED VEHICLE!

The exact same thing happened to me

AUTHOR: B. Conley - (U.S.A.)

I too have a 2005 cadillac escalade sport regular suv with the 6.0L which is the same you have in your EXT, mine is actually the 2005.5 which is the 2 wheel drive with the 6.0 which came out just a few months before the 2006 models arrived. Funny enough for the past 2 weeks i noticed alittle slipping and today......boom, the entire tranny is gone. My vehicle only has 68,432 miles on it. I am told that "its just a baby". My vehicle will no longer shift all. you can hear the plates slipping and grinding whenever i press the gas. I mean I have no first through any gear or any reverse at all. From what i have seen there are a number of "us" out there that this has happened to all across the country. Just do a search on google for escalade transmissions and look at the number of blogs, auto forums, and cadillac owner sites that are being overrun with issues of the exact same matter. I agree competely that noone should buy an escalade at all. If you look the new (2007-2009) models are now beginning to have the same issues, I have seen reports as soon as 18,000 miles. I will comply and fully cooperate with any lawsuit at all and provide any and all information that i can that may serve useful to, If anyone else cares to do research you will see that everyone else out there has these problems at the exact same time, 68,000-70,000 miles, and i mean everyone. It sounds crazy but its almost like they are programmed to fail in that time frame. I too say that we should all get together and file a class action so we can get results. My Lexus just went through it with oil gelling and the lawsuit ended in a settlement where Toyota agreed to fix every ES 300 and RX 300 with this issue, which turned out to be having to replace anything that oil touched at no charge because of the fluke.
