Today, an 8 foot freeway sign was unveiled that dedicates a portion of the interstate 5 freeway at Magic Mountain Parkway to 4 dead CHP Traffic Officers from way back in 1970. This sign was made and erected at the cost of the people of the State of California. The sign states that this section of the freeway shall now be formally called the "CHP Officers James E. Pence, Roger D. Gore, Walter C. Frego and George M. Alleyn Memorial Highway. This is a great waste of taxpayer dollars and should have been paid for by privately raised funds. That is not to say that it belongs there in the first place.

The Los Angeles Times, dated today, shows a picture of Nikki Frago holding a 2 year old retarded Alyssa Carmona who has no idea where she is. This is one of the dead Traffic Officers surviving wifes and the illegitimate child of the dead Traffic Officers Prostitute Daughters. He used to say that his daughter has a little bit of all of us in her and he wasn't kidding! The s***k h*o cant keep her legs closed.

I have been stopped by the California Highway Patrol a few times in my life for going 10-15 miles over the speed limit. Every single time I was stopped, The Traffic Officer had something mean or disrespectful to say before I said anything. Every time I hear or a cop getting shot, I wonder if he had said something un-necessary to start the whole thing. Nothing a Traffic Officer SAYS deserves that the Traffic Officer be shot, but why not greet the public normally when pulled over for a minor, revenue only generating citation. If you dont go 75mph ever in a 65mph zones youre just not normal. We've all done it. When the speed limit was raised back to 65 from 55, the CHP brass was upset to say the least because they lost a lot of money on people they otherwise would have stopped and given a ticket to that was doing 65mph.

This is a waste of taxpayer dollars and dedicated to 4 dead cops, one of which probably started the fight in the first place with his remarks. If a CHP Officer goes 129mph (Thats as fast as the CHP cars will operationally go) to catch up to a car going 72mph so he could give him a $350 citation slides out of control and knocks this sign down, then you wont see any tears from MY eyes. There are 2 kinds of CHP Cops. The kind that are mean to people when they stop them for MINOR infractions and those than don't do it and tolerate it.

I would never do anything to hurt anybody but every time I hear about one of these cops getting knocked off on duty, it makes me wonder if it could have been prevented by how they approach the driver as far as insults and un-necessary remarks go.

So maybe all of this expensive sign making and renanming of the portion of highway could have also been prevented if cops talk to people respectively when being stopped for a minor traffic infraction. Only the people who shot these cops know the truth about that.

I haven't had a ticket in years...

But, the last time was when a CHP Officer pulled me over for doing 72 in a 65 on the 14 freeway. I don't care what his problem is, I don't deserve to be spoken to like he spoke to me. He walked up and immediately said "Who the hell do you think you are to be speeding like that." That right there was totally un-neccessary and makes this Officer officially an a*****e in my book. Write me a ticket - ask me anything you want but dont talk to me like I am some sort of idiot. I have a civil right to be spoken to in a respectful manner if I am speaking in a respectful manner and cooperating. I promptly made a complaint the next morning in writing at the Newhall CHP station. About a month later I received a letter saying sorry and that my complaint was "founded". I guess I'm not the only person that had an issue with the way this Officer greeets people. I'm sure that he will be fired or "quitted" (asked to quit) before to long. I hope that he ends up with a nice security guard job where he can realize how worthless he is.

My driving record is totally clean and this was the 2nd time i had been pulled over since i was 16. So you people can throw insults at me all you want. I would rather hear you state your disagreements

Christy, that story you told about what happened in Newhall that night sounds really cleaned up and tidy. Im sure that the Officers that night spoke to the men in the car with utmost courtesy. But I am am also sure that all 4 of those assh0les had plenty of times where they treated people like shlt un necessarily and just because they could. Because they are "The MAN" and nobody can do anything about it because they have a job where they can speak to people like they are nothing just because they can get away with it.

I wish I had a job where I could just verbally abuse people right off the bat before they say anything.

Something has to be done about the way that these people talk to violators they pull over for simple things like 72/65.

Wow, I was so offended when I read the original post. Because he has been stopped a few times by CHP officers, he feels no empathy for the loss of these officers' lives, even going so far as to ridicule surviving family members--totally inexcusable. Is he really surprised that he is greeted tersely by an officer who, charged with maintaining the safety of our freeways and highways, may be upset at his reckless driving? The fact that this person has been stopped on multiple occasions by CHP officers speaks for itself. His complaints and disingenuous concerns are unfounded and hateful.

Thanks for the history on the incident, Christy. I don't think a memorial sign is too much to ask for these officers.

California Highway Patrol Officers James Pence, Jr., Walter Frago, Roger Gore, and George Alleyn were shot and killed by two heavily armed assailants.

Earlier in the day, the killers were in the northern Los Angeles County foothills target practicing with an assortment of weapons, which included handguns, rifles, and shotguns. They were also testing the range of their walkie-talkie. Their plan was to use their equipment to commit armed robberies in order to finance a scheme to purchase nursing homes.

After dropping the passenger off in the hills, the driver drove a distance to test the walkie-talkie. During this time, the driver made an unsafe U-turn on the freeway, cutting off another motorist. A verbal exchange occurred between the two drivers, and the driver threatened the motorist with a handgun.

The motorist was allowed to leave after he convinced the gunman the California Highway Patrol was in the area. The motorist then made a call to the California Highway Patrol, Newhall Station.

The CHP officers in the Newhall area were notified by radio that a "brandishing with a handgun" incident had occurred on US 99 in the Gorman area, just north of their positions. Officers Roger Gore and Walter Frago told dispatch they were staked out in the area of Castaic Junction and US 99. A short time later, they spotted the vehicle, an orange color Pontiac, traveling south on the freeway. The officers notified dispatch that they were following the vehicle as it continued south. The officers were in communication with the backup vehicle containing, Officers James Pence and George Alleyn. The officers intended to make a vehicle stop when the gunman reached the area of Valencia Boulevard, where Officers Pence and Alleyn were positioned.

The vehicle instead exited the off ramp at Henry Mayo Drive, just north of Valencia. The Pontiac pulled into the parking lot of a Standard Station and J's Coffee Shop, just off of the exit, and stopped in the driveway of the service station.

After activating their red light, and drawing their weapons, Officer Gore ordered the occupants to exit the car with their hands up. They failed to comply and the order was given again. Finally, the driver got out of the Pontiac and was told to lean on the Pontiac's left fender in order to submit to a search. The passenger still did not comply with the exit order and Officer Frago proceeded to walk up to the right side of the Pontiac in order to remove the passenger. The passenger suddenly opened his door and shot Officer Frago twice with a handgun. Officer Frago collapsed and died immediately. The passenger then fired at Officer Gore, who returned fire. The driver who had a handgun concealed in his waistband shot Officer Gore; he was hit twice in the chest and died.

In the next instant, Officers Pence and Alleyn arrived on the scene and were fired upon. Officer Pence put out a "shots fired, officers needs assistance" call. In the ensuing gun battle, both officers were shot and killed.

The gunmen were able to make their escape after firing at the arrival of a third and fourth CHP unit. They drove into a dead end road shortly thereafter, and abandoned their vehicle.

Los Angeles County Deputies captured the driver after he stole a camper.

The passenger entered a home in the city of Newhall, and took the residents hostage. He later committed suicide when the home was tear gassed and stormed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The driver received the death penalty upon conviction of four counts of murder. The death sentenced was modified to life in prison after the California Supreme Court ruled the death penalty was unconstitutional.

The killer continues his effort to gain parole.

These people have families too.....I don't care what you are doing or how you speak to someone, nobody deserves to pay with their life!!! These men are heroes and they paved the way for better officer safety in their department! These men and woman go out every day to protect and serve our great state....the least we can do is spend a little bit of money on them for a street sign!!! The fact that you even posted something about these men and they are dead speaks loudly about you!!! I pity you.....
