On November 23, 2007 (Black Friday) I was in the twin cities visiting relatives and while in Edina, purchased a Pentax k10 camera. The advertized deal that was in the minneapolis paper black friday adds, was a free epson printer, k10 body w/50mm lense and a free 70-300 quantaray lense for 799.00. When I purchased the camera I got the body and 50 mm lense. James Estes the store manager sold me the camera and stated they were out of the 70-300 quantaray but stated to me he would find one before xmas (the next time I was in town) or If he didnt get one by then, he would send it to my home in Duluth, MN. After visiting the store in December and no lense, I started worrying. I have spoken to Mr. Estes 3x on the phone, trying to find out what progress was made.

2x he avoided giving me the ultimate answer of there was no lens and I would not be receiving one. He tried selling me a pentax lense for 149.00 out of my pocket a savings of 100.00 he said. I said no to this deal and stated I did not want to pay any more for a lense that was promised (I have a receipt for the quantaray lense) and (ADVERTISED) in the local paper. He said that this was the best he could do and that he had spoken to Gary Michaels his district manager and this is what he said they could offer me. I know now, they had no intention of ever making the purchase right as all phone calls were ended with "Let me get back to you" and they never did not even once.

I NEED THE 2007 RITZ CAMERA BLACK FRIDAY ADDS FROM THE MINEEAPOLIS PAPER. I intend to waste a whole lot of time and money pursuing this in Hennipin County small claims court. If you have the add that states the free quantaray lens, or if you were screwed by them, please contact me. This company does not honor it's agreements!!!!! Dont get screwed by them like I did!!!!!

I actually think you're better off....

That lens is horrible. I wouldn't give it to my competitors.

If there is anyway you can get a discount on a better lens after all this time, take it.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

It's a national ad, but he shouldn't have promised anything

AUTHOR: Ben - (U.S.A.)

Ex-employee here. Unfortunately, most if not all ads produced by Ritz Camera are national ads - my store in particular only received one or two Quantaray lenses and NONE of the giveaway coats advertised.

James should have contacted Ritz Express OR another store before making any statement about getting the lens, and especially about getting it sent to Duluth.

Honestly, and no offense, but since the lens was free and Ritz didn't actually do anything illegal, you have no reason to waste your time or money taking the case to small claims court. Per my understanding, what you experienced is not false advertising.

Take for example, door buster deals at Best Buy or Tickle Me Elmo - if they don't have any, they don't have any. Assuming he even said "Would" get the lens, it's not great customer service.

Advice: I'll follow James' lead here. Quantaray sucks. They are a subsidiary of Sigma, a great lens maker, but their optics are not as well built, fast, and they don't produce the greatest images. Get the Pentax from somewhere you respect.

Nuts to unfounded

You have got to be kidding!!!! "the catch is 'while supplies last'. Supplies didn't last. It's unfortunate". Obviously this rebuttel is from the store manager or district manager who will stoop to any half brain reasoning which serves their purpose! I have a receipt pal, specifically for the quantaray lense, nothing else. He guarenteed that lense to me when I bought the camera. It wasnt as supplies last, because when I bought the camera he was already out. He stated he would find a lense for me or at the very least there would be another shipment coming. He wrote out a separate pink copy receipt specifically stating a quantaray lense for 149.00 shipping was to be free and was checked in the upper left corner. If that is'nt a guarantee I don't know what is and obviously neither do you! I'm glad I have your rebuttel for further evidence you people have no idea what is going on with your sales!

Unfounded

AUTHOR: J101205 - (U.S.A.)

Sir,
I understand you are upset. It really isn't nice to expect to get something and not get it. However, with all black friday ads, the catch is "while supplies last". Supplies didn't last. It's unfortunate. I do know for a fact that what James was trying to do was get you the lens from another store. Again, it's unfortunate, but our other stores are just as busy selling the same product and didn't have one to give. He was giving you a deal on the lens he offered to sell you. He hadn't avoided you, but he is the store manager and had plenty of other things on his plate at the same time (the holiday season is quite busy in retail).

I think you'll find that wasting your time in small claims court wouldn't yield you the results that you want. I am sorry that things didn't work out the way you would have wanted. James did what he could for you, if anything he is guilty of providing false hope when he didn't know if there was any to give.
