First, let me say I am so happy to have found a site that is addressing the Candy King scandal. I originally purchased 10 machines from CK. Prior to shipping, I tried to cancel the deal and Gladstone would not let me. Instead he sent me 10 more machines for free. So I paid 16K for 20 machines. So all of us were getting different prices. Also, through Candy Kings reference list, it sounded like these machines would be fairly easy to locate and business was very good. All of the references I contacted were very quiet about the amount of money they made on the machines. I feel CK had a very select few on the reference list.

After being very unsuccessful locating these machines, I contacted one of Candy Kings locators. I paid $1,000 to locate 10 machines. I quickly found out the potential for these machines to make money was dismal. I have had my machines located for about a 1.5 years and they are junk. CK gave us (in writing) an umbrella warranty for the life of the machine. Well I needed a part for a machine. Now that CK is out of the Altoids business, they gave me the number to the manufacturer of the machines. Guess what? They warrant the parts for one year. After that, you pay full price for all parts.

Like you, I have lost a lot of money on these machines. I figure after I run out of gum (it will probably get old first) I will just throw the junk away. Lets stay in touch. If there is some type of class action law suite, it would be nice to get some money back.

Altoids Gum Machines

AUTHOR: Doctor Who - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, February 22, 2010

I was shocked to read about the scams involving these machines while searching for information about them and trying to find the gum for mine.

I bought several of these machines at auction without any intension of placing them into service but the tought did occur to me so I started looking for the gum and so far Amazon is the only place that has it in bulk (I will find another source).

I guess I bought them for a good price when I see $800 each was paid and anyone who would like to buy some for $150 plus UPS shipping please let me know. I have three to sell and they are in brand new condition (never used with keys). If this will help anyone who could use a new machine to place into service or for parts please contact me at (((ROR redacted))) and ask for Gene

If I find a source for the gum I will pass it along to help.

Is Gum is still available

AUTHOR: Walter Tello - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, August 28, 2009

I guess I was a bit lucky, I bought my machines of someone that probably got scam. I bought 3 machines at about half the price they were asking for them at the website. 1 of the I put in a club atmosphere and found out how poorly constructed they were. It destroyed within 6 months I was able to recoup probably half it's cost. The other 2 learning from my experience were placed in high traffic restaurants they've been there about 2 years I've had to repair them as best I can and this last time I empty them, I took out about 350.00 which by now they have paid for them selves. It took about 2 years. I was about to buy a few more but after reading all these scam reports am a bit reluctant unless I can get them for about 100.00 each I have the locations to put them in so half the battle is won. Which leads me to the original reason why I started this post.

I know you guys out there are looking for gum without it the machines are nothing I know Amazon has it for 285.00 so I know it's available does anyone know of a cheaper place to buy it?

The better question is does anyone know how many pieces of gum are in a 25lb ?

ALTOIDS business is very hard to manage.

I agree with your comments concerning the ALTOIDS gum. The bulk 25 lb bag is unavailable with eBay. It became unavailable for the past 3 months, or so. Amazon.com sells the 25 lb bag for approximately $285.00, plus tax, shipping and handling, etc. I do not know of hand how many individual pieces of gum are in the 25 lb bag. The machine itself will dispense 2 pieces of gum for .25. Most of my candy vending machines will generate a profit margin of approximately 60-65%. The ALTOIDS machine is a diferent story. I will need to generate Sales of $712.00 in order to remain at a .60% profit margin, with $285.00 in Cost of Goods Sold. This comes down to a total of 5,696 total individual pieces that need to be sold. Since the machine will dispense 2 pieces for .25, the Sold pair will come down to 2,848 pairs (5,696 /2 = 2,848). At the moment I am not familair with the total item count with a 25 lb bag. However, I am doubting that a 25 lb bag will contain enough individual pieces so that I can mAintain my present profit margin.

I do not understand as to why the bulk purchase has been made unavailable to the public. This makes ALTOIDS and its manufacturer look very bad and not trustworthy.

Thanks for your comments, though.

Altoids gum now unavailable in bulk

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 06, 2007

I hope all of you that have been scammed by Candy King are checking back here from time to time. I know some of you (like me) were trying to hang on to the business for a little while to try and make back some of our losses. Just wanted to let you know, our only source to buy Altoids in bulk, Amazon, has discontinued the gum. I know we all lost a lot of money on this scam.
