My daughter was a client at Canyon Crossing for two weeks in October 2014. We removed our daughter from Canyon Crossing due to the following issues:
1. Canyon Crossing presents itself as a sober living house for woman in recovery from addiction and dual diagnosis. The owner and staff engaged in psychological treatment of the clients without any credentials. There was Clinical Director who had proper credentials but his role was minimal in treatment of the clients.
2. House managers from Canyon Crossing took clients on outings in which the managers drove over the speed limit and seat belts were not used.
3. Canyon Crossing did not have carbon monoxide detectors in the facility during the time our daughter was a client there despite an aging furnace and recommendations by the repairman.
4. The owner engaged in bullying and intimidating behavior when a decision was being made to remove our daughter from the facility. We were told that if she were to leave she would have to leave that day and go to a hotel. The owner later reneged on that ultimatum. According to Sober Living Network Standard for Homes "In the event a resident is asked to leave the home, all reasonable efforts much be made to find alternative lodging, exception for immediate danger to health, safety and welfare of residents or the community."
5.Canyon Crossing engaged in such practices as having the clients wear signs to group meetings for "bad behavior." Signs such as "boy ban" and " won't speak unless spoken to." These are therapeutic techniques that should only be used by licensed mental health professionals which the owner and staff are not.
In summary Canyon Crossing is over stepping its bounds as a sober living facility. Clients are subjected to mental health therapies by persons who are non licensed as mental health professionals. This has the potential to harm vulnerable woman with addiction and mental health disorders.

Sorry you had a bad experience

AUTHOR: CCR - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, May 30, 2016

We are sorry to hear you had a bad experience. While we can neither confirm or deny any person participation in our program we can address the following issues.

1-Canyon Crossing Recovery Outpatient Treatment center is a state licensed joint commission accredited program which also includes a fully licensed urgent care. The OTC is also coupled with but legally separate from the sober living. There are many licensed practitioners including but not limited to Psy D, Do, NP, LAC LISAC and LPC. Many housing staff have their BA;s and are weekly trained and guided in their employment. The clinical director plays a very active role in the treatment of every client we have.

2-All staff adhere to safe driving practices. All vehicles are monitored by remote gps tracking which include the supervision of these safe practices.

3-All houses are equipped with both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

4-We do not condone or approve of any bullying. We unfortunately have to make decisions when clients choose to leave to protect our community especially if the client that is leaving is of a toxic influence and engaging in manipulative behaviors. We can not sacrifice the good of the community for an indivigual making poor chooses.

5-Any therapeutic practices were monitored and assigned by licensed clinicians

In summery Canyon Crossing Recovery Outpatient Treatment Center practices within its scope of practices. We by no means place any individual into harms way. Canyon Crossing Recovery Center Saves Lives

AUTHOR: Mom of Addict - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, November 26, 2014

I was saddened to see the complaint of Anonymous regarding the services of Canyon Crossing Recovery Center in Prescott.  This treatment facility saves lives and engages in the best practices availiable to address the disease of addiction in young women.  As the mother of a young woman who suffers with the disease of addiction, as well as a professional in the recovery industry, I cannot sing the praises of Canyon Crossing Recovery Center loud enough.  My daughter has been a patient at many treatment centers and Canyon Crossing delivers the highest and best care she has received.  Yes, it has been uncomfortable at times, but following the advice of the director and counselors on staff at CCR saved our daughter's life and saved our family.  If your daughter is in need of treatment for chronic substance abuse and suffers from the disease of addiciton, please connect with Canyon Crossing Recovery.  Unlike other facilities, CCR understands the fear and anxiety of the family.  CCR is the only facility that did not take advantage of the fear a family suffers when seeking treatment for a loved one.  CCR's explanation of the treatment plan, expectations and strategy for your daughter equips you to navigate the dark and scary road of being a parent of an addict. Find Canyon Crossing Recovery, follow their advice and save your daughter.
