I received the same cell phone call that everyone else seems to have received, offering the world in a credit card. I cant believe I fell for it, but I'm happy to say I caught myself before they took the money, thanks to this website. My bank put a hold on my card and I'm closing the account tomorrow morning. My only concern is WHAT ABOUT THE PERSONAL INFO that they took from us? They got socials and names and birthdates. I am concerned that they will sell our information, I know I'm not the only victim, but I'm 6 months pregnant and I cant file a small claims suit, please someone who can, get these guys before we all become victims again, of identity theft!!!!!!!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Contact the credit bureaus

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

First Ashley, I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you. But at least you were able to block them from stealing your money.

As for your personal information, contact the three credit bureaus -- Experian, Equifax and Transunion -- and put fraud alerts on your credit reports. That way, if anyone (including you) tries to use your information (SSN, DOB, etc.) to apply for credit, the creditor will have to contact you in order to proceed with the application. This will help you catch identity theft and hopefully stop it before it goes too far.

There are different ways to put fraud alerts on your credit reports. A lot of people include a statement which requests that the creditor contact them in a certain way -- by mail, by phone, etc. -- and that the application not be processed without written consent first. Other people put passwords on their credit reports, or a security question/answer, which the applicant must identify before the creditor can finish processing the application.

Either way, the security password/Q&A should be something very unique that no one but you would know, and would be very difficult to guess at random. The question should also be about something that does not change. For example...

Q: "Spelled backwards, what was last name of your first boyfriend?"
A: "N-O-S-N-H-O-J"

OR...

Q: "What is your password?"
A: "N-O-S-N-H-O-J"

Also, file a police report if you haven't already. Make sure you keep any information possible about who you spoke with, date/time of phone call, etc. You can't file a small claims suit because you don't know who they are. Hopefully the police can investigate.

Best of luck to you.
