I have been a Capital One cardholder for four months. I have always made my payments on time, and always paid more than the minimum. I am a 19 year old college student with a $500 credit limit. I am trying to build up some credit so when I graduate from college I won't be starting out with nothing.

Last week I used my card at a local store and the transaction was denied. I called the number on the back of the card and it says the account is closed. (However, there is a $400 balance on the card.)

I called today to find out why the card was closed, and the lady said I had called on Feb 18th and requested that it be closed. I told her I had not called, and that I did not request it to be closed. She said she was sorry, I had requested it to be closed, and there was nothing she could do.

I have checked my phone records and there are no calls to Capital One or any other 800 or 888 number. I had sent Capital One a message the first part of February using their online Message Center. In it I asked how to remove the Protection Plan because I didn't want it. On Feb 18th (the day they say I called and cancelled my account) they sent me a reply through their Message Center saying they were sending out an ACH cancel / change form. I had never requested an ACH cancel / change form, so when I received it in the mail I just threw it away.

Here is my message I sent to them:

What is this Protection charge on Dec 11th? I do not want the protection and did not request it. I didn't know it was going to be charged to my account so it put my balance above my credit limit. I did not, under any
circumstances, want to go over my credit limit. Please email me and let me know what I need to do to have the protection stopped. I am on social security so do not need any protection from job loss, disability, or
anything like that.

And here is their reply:

Thanks for contacting us regarding your Capital One account. We have submitted your request to the appropriate department for completion.

If you have questions, please respond to this email or give us a call a 1-800-955-7070. Our Customer Service Representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

And then this reply:

Thanks for contacting us about your Capital One account.
We are pleased to send an ACH cancel / change form. Due to system contraints with attachments, your application will follow via regular mail.

You are a valued customer and we thank you for choosing Capital One.

If you have questions, please respond to this email or our Customer Service Representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-955-7070.

Now I have a cancelled credit card on my credit report, which I have been told is not a good thing at my age. Is there anything I can do?
