CapitalOne loves to use commercials to brag about the service they provide however you should be careful when you do business with them. They brag about no hassle and the term no hassle is used by them a lot but one thing I have found out is that if you pay your bill at 3:01pm your account is automatically charged a $35 late fee.

Then your payment will take 48 hours to post to your account and if you call them and ask that they remove the late fee they will refuse to remove the late fee talk about no hassle and wonderful customer service. One thing I don't understand is that I can pay my bill online at no charge but if you try to make a payment over the phone your are charged a $10 service charge. CapitalOne does not care about customer service or ethics the only thing they care about is separating you from your money. Before you sign up for on of their "no hassle" credit cards or use any of their service consider the complaints on this site and read the fine print of the contract or any other document or it will be a hassle for you. I suggest that you don't use CapitalOne.

Different cutt of times

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 23, 2006

So Jennifer you are telling me that CapitalOne stops processing online payments after 3pm and over the phone payments until 6pm? Why does CapitalOne process phone payments until 6? Why can't Capitalone process online payments until 6pm? Why does CapitalOne charge a fee to make a payment over the phone and allows online payments for free? Why can't CapitalOne install a real-time system so that payments are posted immediately to the account?

Most other companies are using a real-time system and post payments immediately and don't charge a late fee immediately(one minute after the cut off time). Most other companies allow you to make your payments for online and over the phone for free and defer the late fee for at least 5 days. CapitalOne will not do this because they can't charge a late fee and over the limit fee and their only interest is taking your money. If CapitalOne processes phone payments until 6 they should process online payments until 6 and should not charge a fee to pay your bill over the phone. Your comments only go to show how CapitalOne works to take every penny they can from you. I am only telling people if they pay there bill one minute past 3pm on the due date they will be assed a late fee. Is that fair to the consumer? Like I have stated previously most reputable companies will not do this. This is just poor customer service and consumer should be aware.

Payment cut-off times

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

So let me get this straight: You are telling people not to use a particular credit card because YOU don't get your payments in by their payment cut-off times and then get late fees?

On Capital One's online payment center, there is a section that clearly explains what times the payments will post to your account depending on what day and time you make the payments. Yes, if you pay online after 3pmET, your payment will post the next business day. Likewise with phone payments -- the automatic system tells you that if your payment is before 6pmET it will post the same business day, if after 6pmet it will post the next business day.

Is it Capital One's fault if you didn't pay online before 3pmET on your due date? Or if you didn't pay by phone before 6pmET on your due date?

If you want to avoid late fees, then don't wait until the last minute to make your payment. Capital One statements have a 30-day cycle. You've got 30 DAYS to make your payment -- that doesn't mean you have to wait until Day 30 to do it!

The good news is that you are obviously very familiar with the payment cut-off times and can go forward avoiding late fees by paying on time.
