When you can't argue the points...

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 02, 2017

...just accuse the person who disagrees with you of being an agent of the company which "victimized" you.  This is a dodge used on every Ripoff Report comment thread which goes long enough.  It's incredibly childish, lazy, and almost offensively arrogant, as it suggests that no one with another take (one you apparently can't challenge in any honest way beyond "please feel sorry for me" gibberish) could possibly be honest, but must instead be a plant.  You fail in the most cliche'd way imaginable.   Grow up.

To the friend

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, October 02, 2017

When she got the loan she signed a legally binding agreement that stated she would make a payment every two weeks. From her original post even with her limited English she understood this. The loan also had terms that if she failed to do this they have the right to repossess it. Now, if she read that or understood it is unknown. But if she didn't understand everything she was signing then she should not have signed it until she did. Even if this means she had to have someone else come in and help her.

There was no reason she needed to ask when her next due date was, it was 2 weeks after the payment she just made. She doesn't need to understand English for this, she doesn't need a phone to keep track of it. All she needs is to look at a calendar.

You also stated she was able and willing to pay that day. So everything you posted stating why they should have shown her sympathy is inconsequential and irrelevant because none of that affected her ability to pay.

She stated this happened while she was at a Job Fair. Why did she not pay it before she went to the Job Fair?   When and how was she going to pay it? Was it in reality going to be after the business day so it may have been the Calendar Date 28th, but in reality processed on the 29th?

This is important because you can read report after report on this site from people who complain that they got their car repossessed on the exact day they were going to pay. Almost as if the lender was a mind reader and just happen to choose that same day. Where again time after time they all say "I had the money and was going to pay", and all they want is a little "sympathy" for their situation. Sound Familiar? You then get another set of people claim to not be able to pay a past due car payment, but once it gets repossessed they magically come up with 3-4 times that amount to get the car back within hours. The common theme is that every one of those people had the ABILITY to pay, they just were not WILLING to pay until the lender reposessed the car.

Sure the lender COULD do things but they are not required to. If they do..great If they don't this is NOT a RipOff, and that is really the main the point of these comments.

This company(and other Sub-Prime lenders) deal with people who are experts at making excuses, people who have not shown they can handle credit, people that have outright lied and scammed companies, people that do everything in their power to avoid having to pay what they legally owe. They do this by giving just about every excuse in the book you can think of. I am not saying that she falls into this category, but the company is not going to spend the time to try and figure out who is and who isn't telling the truth.

Now, just to say that it is great that she has a friend who is trying to defend her.  Pehaps you can help her out more by making sure some of these critical issues such as payments are made in a timely manner.

It is great that she is trying to make a life for herself, but so are 100's of thousands of other people. Every one with their own "story", but a finance company is not a charity. If they truly did show sympathy to people where there is really no "threat" if they don't pay...people would find every way to avoid paying. After all if you could go 5 or even 10 days late on a payment, and if you have the car repossessed and all you need to pay is the back due..what incentive do you have to pay when you are supposed to? Yes, you will eventually pay but these people lend money on the promise that you are going to pay them back at specific intervals that they use to run their business. If you are a business and expect payments to come in on a certain date, if they don't it affects other expenses the business has to pay perhaps even the ability to pay their own employees.

Good Luck

Here' what you both don't understand.

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 01, 2017

The title of this site is "Ripoffreport.com." It's a place for people to report ripoffs.  So, setting aside all the whining and excuses and begging for compassion, where is the "ripoff" here?

The author of the original post signed a contract.  For reasons possibly beyond her control, she was not able to fulfill her contract.  So the car she took possession of but could not pay for was taken back by it's rightful owner.

It's really just that simple.   All of the rest- about hurricanes, autistic children, disability etc. are all very sad but they have nothing to do with the fact that nobody was ripped off here.  Yes, the car company COULD have shown some compassion for the author of the original post and allowed her to keep the car without paying for it, or it COULD have given her more time.  But it was not legally required to do either.

This is a very common problem with posts at ripoffreport.com.  More often than not- and I think about 99.9 percent of the ones posted concerning Rent A Center fall into this category- they involve people who are just looking for reasons to break their contracts and lashing out at a company which did nothing more than offer them a service they thought looked attractive at the time.  They also involve people who just want to burden someone else with their problems.  You really need to come to grips with the fact that your issues can't be made the car company's issues, and the car company is under no- ZERO, NADA, NONE- obligation to make your life easier.  That's what friends and relatives are for, and even they will only give if they CHOOSE to.

You were not "ripped off."  The company did NOTHING WRONG.  You can whine and stamp your feet and scream "so unfair" all you want, doesn't change the simple fact that there is NO RIPOFF HERE.  Good luck with your issues, but please spare us any more sermons.

Rebecca, you made a few good points but keep in mind that the contract does not offer empathy to the borrower. The finance company is also located in Hillsborough County so they were also affected by the hurricane. Should they be expected to accept delayed payments from all of their local customers? Of course not, they have a business to run.

Why would someone with medical issues, no money, no credit and a special needs child have ANOTHER child? Gee, I’m flat broke so I’ll have another kid and default on my two-month-old car note!

Yes, some of us are harsh but we don’t appreciate shelling out disability payments to people that fail to utilize contraception.

A kind word of hope goes a long way!

AUTHOR: Rebeca - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, September 30, 2017

It is sad to see how as human beings, we show no kindness to others. Empathy is free! But you either have it or don't. Unless you live in someone elses shoes you cannot know or understand the extend of their circumstances and situations. Instead of passing judgement and non constructive criticism, we find it EASIER to bash, put down, say hurtful things that do not improve anything. However for some people, putting others down is the only way to feel better about themselves. In the comments i have read so far, i don't see anything constructive. I see adults bullying someone they know nothing about. Yes bullying!! Just because a person may not speak or write perfect English and may not be able to express themselves as they would like to in a foreign language does not give anyone the right to be cruel or insulting. How petty, shame on you! Now let me set the record straight on behalf of my friend. My friend is an immigrant but not illegal, (not that it should matter but to some people it makes a difference) she is a US Citizen. Pays taxes, has always worked since arriving to the U.S. and so much more. She didn't attend school in this country thus, she learned English as a second language on her own. The little or much she knows perfect or not was self taught. I commend anyone that takes the time and puts in the effort to be able to communicate in a language foreign to them. My friend has two autistic children. One almost non verbal and one a bit more functional yet with many emotional disorder conditions that affect his day to day life. Have you been there? Done that?? Stop pretending you know what it is like if you don't. Even when different families deal with autism, it is so wide spread that not one family is completely alike. Each child will have different needs, some more than others. My friend had to stop working because her son had to be hospitalized for many days for a special treatment followed by 2 weeks of around the clock treatments at home in order to help him eat again. In addition to this, she now needs surgery on her shoulder due to many years of waitressing to provide for her children. She picked up doing uber to supplement her income but when her car broke down she needed a reliable car. She went to Car credit and asked them to please make sure the car was in good conditions and was not going to leave her stranded with her children. She borrowed money to put a down payment on it that she didn't have.

A day or two after bringing the car home it started giving her problems. The car was even missing a piece of the bottom of the car that protects it from getting water under it. Due to the hurricaine, she was not able to do uber for over a week. The hurricaine caused water to leak into her house, pipes were damaged, loss of power, and dealing with special needs children, one who's routine was completely changed and do not comprehend it or cope well with it. He threw and broke his coping method: his ipad. Out of frustration he also threw his mom's phone and broke it. My friend would have never just not paid her car. It is her only method of transportation to be able to take her children and mom to medical appointments, therapy, etc and to earn money to support her family. Her due dates were on her phone that has had to be sent in for repair. She asked a staff member when was her next payment due date and He told her the 28th. Now, could he have said the 23rd and she misheard? Absolutely!! Could He have made a mistake and accidentally say the 28th instead of the 23rd? Also true. FEMA declared many counties in the State of Florida as A disaster zone.

It didn't designate specific street, it designated COUNTIES and hillsborough county is one of those affected. Loss of power means not being able to cook, missing time from work and therefore more expenses and less income. Due to the loss that thousands of families experienced, the tolls were suspended did you enjoy that benefit?? I was thankful for it. Mortgage, credit card companies, banks, electric companies, phone companies extended due dates, and waived fees, even postponed payments due on loans. Did you enjoy any of those too? Were they helpful to you? They were a blessing to my family. So i am grateful there are companies that don't only see dollar signs $$$$$ My friend didn't ask for a payment extension. She had the money and was going to go pay it on 9/28 which was the due date she thought and was told it was due. ( For the first time in her life here in the US she enrolled in a technical school to learn a trade and be able to provide better for her family. Waitressing or any kind of physical labor she cannot do because of the deterioration of her shoulder)

By the way..This was a bi-weekly payment not a montly payment. Instead, this company took her vehicle, (while she was in a school activity and left her stranded 40 minutes from her house with no way to get home). They also would not accept her to pay the $250 they want her to pay over $700. A payment ahead plus a repo fee of $300. The manager who told me her name was Maria and yet the next day come to find out there is no Maria there, told me her company didn't care if the county was selected as a disaster area. That they take on high risk loan (low credit or no credit) and that is the way they do business. On top of that she lied telling me that they had called me. I was never called, no messages, no nothing amd my phone record proves that. Under the law perhaps they did nothing wrong in context. Contracts have loan numbers but the ones making the payments are HUMAN BEINGS, not robots. Anyone can forget a due date (if you are without fault, throw the first stone) however, courtesy goes a long way. One happy customer with a good taste in their mouth goes a long way in recommending a person, a business etc. When you as a company don't care to extend any kindness and understanding to your client going through difficult circumstances as i am sure they have done this to countless families without a care in the world and turn around adding over priced fees you deserve media attention to expose you. Why would anyone want to do business with a company who does not give a crap about the people that keep them in business?? I don't and i will never ever do business with or recommend them to anyone.

What?

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, September 30, 2017

Perhaps you can come back here and have your friend post your report as it looks like your post was written by a 3rd grader.

You have a car payment every 2 weeks.  So you should NOT need to call them up and ask them when the next payment is due. It is due 2 weeks from your last payment. Your last payment was September 9th. which means your next payment is due 9/23.

You blame Huricane Irma..but Hurricane irma went through on September 10th/11th and gave nothing that states you were impacted. Well except for this gibberish.

"my cel damage sep 11 on my house do to my several autistic boy shot ouside the house and got wet,"

You then stated..."they didnt care anyway"

I don't think it is a case of them not caring. I think it is a case of them not knowing what in the world you are talking about.

Don't get me wrong. If you were affected by the hurricane, then a company should try and take that into consideration and make SOME allowances.  But with the fact that you are on disability(not job dependent), and stated you were going to pay that day indicates that the hurricane did NOT imact you in any way that was causing you not to pay.

So this defaults back to the fact that you had a payment due every two weeks, and you should have known that was the 23rd.  There was no reason for the company to tell you the 28th..but every reason that you could have "heard" the 28th that just happened to be the same day you receive your disability.

By the way..NO company is going to give you a warning that they are going to reposess the car.

Irrelevant

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 30, 2017

The relevant parts of your post explain how you needed a car and agreed to a contract requiring you to make payments every two weeks in return for the car.  That's about it.

The irrelevant parts of your car are a stream of consciousness pity party in which you pile on with excuses- you have an autistic kid (or two, or he's two years old, hard to say) a disabled sister, you lost your job, the hurricane was approaching, you have health issues, "several autistic boy shot outside the house" ( seriously, learn basic English!) something about school, reminding us again that you or someone else is disabled (is it you, your kids or your sister, or all of the above?  ENGLISH!) None of which have ANYTHING to do with the fact that you SIGNED A CONTRACT which was fulfilled by the car company but NOT by YOU.

You ask for "mercy" for people who "make mistakes."  Who made the mistake here?  You?  Ok- what do you want as "mercy?" To be allowed to keep a car you can't pay for?  Mercy is the suspension of Justice.  For all your whining and excuse-making, it seems that Justice is what you got.

Mercy is a funny thing- the car company would like mercy from a deadbeat whiner who doesn't want to fulfill her contract because Look At How Messed Up My Life Is, while the whiner wants mercy from-- the consequences of her own decisions.  Fortunately, we have Justice to solve the dilemma.

Some Advice....

AUTHOR: John - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, September 30, 2017

So you've been "kicked around" and "punched in the face" by the IRS (which unfairly wants you to stop being a deadbeat and pay your fair share) and vendors (who- because they are cruel and brutal- want you to pay for products you now own?)  Boo f--g h*o.

Pay your bills.  You know, like everyone else is expected to.  It's the best way to keep people off your back when you're "vulnerable."  And btw, the best way to avoid being "vulnerable" is also to PAY YOUR BILLS.

No sympathy here.
