I paid $4000 for assistance in my career change. They only give a 3 day grace period to cancel the contract, so it is virtually impossible to determine if their services will be beneficial. Stupidly, I signed at the dotted line and then had my "executive briefing" and the deal was done. Even after 2 months of using their techniques---no interviews. I spent my time sending 30 resumes out to recruiters they provided, only to have 10 envelopes returned saying "address undeliverable". My "career counselor" was less than warm. In the interim, I found out that I needed an operation that would cost in the thousands. Out of work, I was facing financial crisis after paying CMS the $4000 in bulk. When I told them after 2 months that I would like to terminate my contract and receive a partial refund to assist with my medical needs they said, "NO". Yes, I did sign the contract, but sometimes humanity and compassion should be taken into consideration. These people are heartless bloodsuckers. You don't need to pay thousands for this kind of service....Read, "What Color is My Parachute?" and get in contact with a professional career counselor that charges by the hour. The only thing this company did for me was reformat my resume....and that didn't even help with my job search. BUYER BEWARE!

Rebuttal is result of lawsuit; do not use this company if you plan to complain here

This company confirmed for me (by telephone) that:

1) They did sue the person who posted the original complaint.

2) The "rebuttal" that appears to be from that person was actually written by an attorney due to the lawsuit.

I have no opinion on the validity of the original complaint. However, I recommend that you not use this company. The risk of being sued if you complain is too great.

The BBB says this company tried "to obtain a retraction...by threatening to file a defamation lawsuit against the complainant."

The BBB says that, after a person complained about this company, "The company has attempted to obtain a retraction of this complaint by threatening to file a defamation lawsuit against the complainant." To confirm this, go to http://www.la.bbb.org/BusinessReport.aspx?CompanyID=13210113 and, under the paragraph titled "Complaint Experience", click "more".

I did not determine whether or not that complaintant was the same person as posted the complaint and retraction above. I also did not determine whether the retraction posted here is the one that the BBB says the company attempted to obtain "by threatening to file a defamation lawsuit against the complainant" or another retraction. However, I found no evidence that the retraction and apology were voluntary or would have been posted without the threat of a lawsuit.

Dear RipOffReport,

During the last few months I have caused to be published several statements and comments directed at Career Management Services that were both misleading and false. Upon reflection, I now realize that my comments were not only inappropriate but were damaging to the reputation and goodwill of this company.

I sincerely apologize to Career Management Services and its officers and employees for my actions and will take immediate corrective measures to retract any negative communications.
