Responded to an advert posted on craigslist by this company, received an immediate reply asking me to fill out a 'short online application' at 'starlitecareers.com'. They were also *kind* enough to suggest in the email that they "support continuing education and tuition reimbursement" and advised me to indicate this on the application form.

Lo and behold after filling out the requisite general info, the second page takes me to nothing other than a list of *respected* colleges like the University of Phoenix etc. --this page was simply a list of companies that wanted you to sign up for their spam mail, nothing more.

I went back and resubmitted the application but this time left the continuing education box unchecked, only to be directed to a bogus job search site called careernetworkjobs.com.

****WARNING to all other job seekers: This is nothing more than a company seeking free consumer contacts for their spam and using the lowest possible means to do so!

#5 UPDATE Employee

We're sorry you feel our recruitment services are questionable, allow me to explain how we operate

AUTHOR: Career Network - (U.S.A.)

I'm sorry that you feel our recruitment practices are questionable. I'm sure this is only due to a misunderstanding of us and our business. Allow me to clear up any confusion by explaining who we are and what it is we exactly do.

Career Network is a new job board that is free to use by both job seekers and employers. Currently, there are thousands of jobs throughout the country available for application on our network of employment sites. We actively market those opportunities to individuals who have previously expressed interest in receiving employment offers. This works as a benefit for our corporate clients as we actively reach hundreds of potential applicants who had not previously been introduced to the opportunity through traditional job ads.

To keep our services free to both job seekers and employers we do offer advertising verticals on the site. However they are completely voluntary and do not in any way affect job seekers' consideration for the listed employment opportunities. We act only as an intermediary between the applicants and the hiring companies, and do not interfere with the delivery of submitted resumes for any reason. To do so would jeopardize our relationships not only with our corporate clients but our advertising partners as well. Before we post any job on our network of job sites we first obtain signed agreements with the companies.

Let me assure you that nothing will be done with your personal information that you do not expressly authorize. Foremost, since you are applying for a position, your resume will be transmitted to the employer who will then consider you for a job based solely on your skills and education. Beyond that, we will only connect you with our promotional partners if you agree to it during the application process.

I hope this clears up any confusion you may have regarding our Web site and our recruitment services. Please feel free to contact us with any further issues or suggestions at info@careernetwork.us.com.

This is very similar to a report filed by someone else, apparently this is the latest way of getting consumer info AND/OR phishing scams:

AUTHOR: Jobseeker - (U.S.A.)

POST TITLE: Veriresume, Veriresume.com, Employment Select, Jobspositionpro.com NOT a legit job search or resume-verifying entity Unknown Internet

I responded the other day to a job that was either on yahoo.hotjobs.com or CareerBuilder. It was for a Non-Profit Coordinator. I had to fill out an external application on jobspositionpro.com, and one or two red flags came up as I was filling out the application. First, they asked me for information about my wireless provider. Second, they asked me if I was interested in pursuing any additional educational opportunities. (I said no.) I submitted the application, and saw a message saying that I could hear from them in 24-48 hours to verify receipt of my application.

About two days later, I got a phone call from 213-325-3204. I spoke with Autumn, who told me that she needed to 'verify my information' from my application for the Non-Profit Coordinator position at 'a confidential client company'. I figured it was just a standard screening process and went ahead with it. I gave her my phone number, and with that, she was able to pull up my 'account' (address, and all of the information included on the application). I made a slight correction to my address for her, but then the red flags started popping up once again when she asked about cell phone carriers, text messaging, and educational opportunities. I emphatically said 'no' for each one.

It was at this point that I Googled VeriResume and found a handful of unfavorable reports on the company. There's even a lawsuit in progress between a blogger and VeriResume -- the blogger called VeriResume a scam and a phishing service! I find it curious that there's even a lawsuit about this, as most companies expect a little bit of bad press and would typically handle it without litigation. Especially in the case of an unknown blogger! Red flags all over the place.
