Purchased a modular home from Ritz Craft thru Carlson Builders. Paid the down payment in May, the modular arrived in July.
This is December and the house, which was 70% complete is still not finished.
The brand new modular was damaged by the carelessness of the builder. The house was left uncovered so it rained inside. They had to drill holes in the cieling to let the water drain. The bedroom trim if flaking and warped, the carpet is loosed and matted.
The brand new kitchen floor is scratched.
The counter tops are scratched and peeling.
The walls are scratched and filthy.
They incorrectly drilled holes in the doors for hardware and jest left them.
The garage window is broken, the front and garge doors were damaged.
The hardwood floor is seperating.
The stain work inside is half done, there are areas missing stain, varnish or sanding.
The kitchen cieling has water stains.
The fireplace doesn't work.
Hardware is missing from the windows and doors.
The closet shleving was installed wrong and is pulling and cracking the drywall.
The front porch was built incorrectly. The stairs only sit 1 1/2" on the cement. The rail is thinner than the post it sets on by an inch. The wood is poor quality.
The house was left open at lest a dozen times, including leaving the windows open three times after they left the roof uncovered and it rained inside.
The yard was full was shingles, aluminum, nails and fiberglass. They leveled the yard and we will now be picking up garbage for the rest of our lives. Not to mention the risk my children now have when a piece of aluminum works it's way out of the dirt.

Thanks for telling me to protect myself. Same thing may be happening to me.

I found this report after actively searching for "carlson homes rip off".
I am starting to agree with Dorothy. We just recently purchased a modular home from Carlson. (Oct.2007) A day after it was set on the foundation it rained. Through a small roof leak left for over 2 weeks it flooded the ceilings and wall and floors in half the house. I was optimistic about having Carlson Homes fix it but the furthur we deal with them the more they balk. Even going so far as to suggest we were negligent in not informing them of the leak soon enough even though we had. Many other things are popping up now as well.
We have yet to see what they will actually do to make this right. Thanks to this report however we have hired a lawyer to protect our rights. I don't see how a customer with these complaints could be considered "stuck up". We just want what we have paid for. A NEW undamaged house.
Thank You Dorothy for informing us of the danger here.
P.S. Im still not sure how a comment like "It is only the stuck-up customers who complain" is "Solid, productive criticism"

Carlson Homes is NOT a rip-off

I would like to disagree with Dorothy, who seems to think that building a home with Carlson Homes is a rip-off. My mother works for Carlson Homes and our home was built by Carlson Homes with no problems at all. Carlson's has many MANY satisfied customers. It is only the stuck-up customers who complain. If you have a problem with Carlson Homes, take it up with them, not some stupid website.

We have gone through mediation with our attorneys and have come to an agreement that is satisfying to both Carlson and ourselves. We would like this ripoff report removed.

This site might be of some help to you: http://www.geocities.com/taismho/ Also look for other people on the rip off report and by searching on www.google.com who also have a complaint against the same company. If they're like most, they'll be telling all of you that "you're my only unhappy customer." The info you can exchange will be very helpful.
