was communicating with sales consultant steven calderalo in boynton beach, I live in louisiana. On sat 12/20 i found a 07 gmc yukon slt on cars.com listed at $19998 with 56k miles on it. I sent an email through cars.com to carmax and Stephen was the consultant who contacted me about 30 mins later. he explained the features to me and how their financing worked. I relayed to him that I was in louisiana and preapproved for financing and i asked if they would be able to hold the vehicle for me. he went and spoke to his manager and called me back with a yes. I them told him i would call him on monday morn after i spoke to my bank. On mon I called my bank they told me they dont do out state financing.I immediatly called stephen and got the credit application stated. my husband and i were approved for the vehicle so i told stephen we would be there on tuesday to pick the vehicle up. he asked that we put the insurance on the vehicle bc we would need it to leave the lot. i immediately began working on plane tickets as well as the insurance. i purchased one way non refundable tickets which cost $523 to arrive on tuesday morn. i got a call from stephen at about 8:45pm cST the voicemail stated that the vehicle had been sold so dont come. HOW COULD YOU TELL AN OUT OF TOWN CUSTOMERS WHO HAS ALREADY BOOKED NONREFUNDABLE TICKETS NOT TO COME? My husband and were professional about the situation and I contacted stephen back about 9:30 he told me he was sorry but dont come bc the vehicle had been sold after he got off at 8:30. I told him that we had our tickets and we would be there an we expected to have the vehicle we put insurance on. he said he would be at the airport to pick us up. he kept his word on that. we arrived at the dealership and there we met fred which is the GM of that location. He was a nice guy overall, however our needs were still not met. Fred worked to find something comprable to the vehicle we were approved for, it was a yukon SLE not an SLT and it had cloth seats instead of Leather. we settled for that however we the problem was it was in garland, tx and we had no way home!!! bc we purchased one way tickets. i asked fred if they could pay for our airfare to return home since we didnt have a car to drive their as we planned. he replied no and that he had done what he needed to by finding us a comprable vehicle, once again i became upset bc he really didnt do us a a favor bc we lost $523 to get there and we didnt get the vehicle we had insurance on. Now think what if the person they sold that vehicle to had a wreck after leaving the lot who would have been responsible for those damages?? fred gave up something like a buyers order for the suv in garland,tx and i saw the price listed at 21998 with a transfer fee of $549. i immediatly asked him if the price was correct he replied no it would be $19998 like the orginal deal was. I said ok well what about the transfer fee he said you will have to pay whatever it is to transfer the suv to our jackson,ms location. Jackson,ms is the location closest to me. My husband and i said well it is not our fault you all made a mistake. fred said all we are able to do is take $2000 off of the $21998 and that i could discuss any further issue about the transfer fee with the gm of jackson location. he then stated that i have my shuttle ready to take you all back to the ft. lauderdale airport. Note: we purchased one way tickets and we could have been stranded at the airport with no flight back home. We had to pay $555 dollars to purchase one way tickets back home. This was a christmas gift from my husband to me and boynton beach carmax location was the grinch who stole my christmas! I am in the business of sales myself and i am a firm believer of making a sales transaction seamless. I have been managed and have been a manager I know how a customer should be handled and we were not handled in the best manner. i really hope this gets to the very top of carmax leaders in fact i will make sure it does! The reflects a bad image over the company itself. All i want is them to reimburse me for my airfare to get there orginall.

So you're trying to convince me that you bought and paid for a truck over the phone, had insurance on it already when you were booking the flight and preferred to fly all the way out there when Carmax provides a relatively low cost transfer service to all of its customers for all of their vehicles. The same transfer service you ended up using in the end. Why did you go through all of this hassle the long way? While you were at it why not just buy another plane ticket to the second dealership, and on your way back go ahead and make that stop off in fantasy land. It seems you have been living there for awhile anyways. Carmax would have held the vehicle for you if your story is true. After all you had already bought the car. How can they sell what isn't theirs? But you would actually have to be present to sign the title and paperwork in order to really own the truck.

If you have all your facts straight then I still don't see where the ripoff is. it cost you 1627 dollars for the transfer fee, and two plane tickets. (You should have just paid the transfer fee originally and saved yourself the plane trips, and you would have gotten the truck you wanted to badly). They took 2k off of the vehicle. That is a profit in any language.

As for liability. If they are telling you that you need insurance on a vehicle you don't even officially own yet before you even get on a plane to head in the direction of the dealership, I know they made the real owners of the truck get insurance before they actually drove their possession off of the lot. They were driving, their insurance, that would be their fault.

If you're truly in sales then you know what a high stress job it can be, you should understand where this young lad was coming from when he forced you to buy something you hadn't seen in person. The he forced you to fly all the way out there on a non-refundable ticket. Then at the last second he fumbled the ball. If he wouldn't have forced you to do all those things none of this would have ever happened. Or perhaps we should just use a bit of common sense next time and not get ourselves into these silly predicaments.

"If you read further.. In the complaints, there are other unresolved issues with the BBB. Do not bother with the BBB they are paid by them. Contact your attourney general's office and find as many bloggs you can to leave your mark. You probably will not get your airfair back but luckly you didnt buy the vehicle. I have found the majority of the vehicles are previous rentals that have been wrecked and or the titles are clear or have been washed. I wish I had bought new with a local dealer."

Good idea. Go to a local dealer, the ones who are at the Carmax wholesale auctions every week buying the cars that Carmax rejects and refuses to sell. The guys who are selling these rejects next to their new cars calling them certified. They are very trustworthy compared to Carmax, a fortune 500 company who has served millions of happy customers. With logic like that I can understand how you would think its even possible for a big business like Carmax to wash a title.

my response is to this previous comment, carmax does not wash car titles and make them clean, and do not sell vehicles with FRAME or FLOOD DAMAGE! Your ignorance makes me laugh, I really cant stop laughing! yes carmax sells rental vehicles, are rental vehicles BAD??? absolutely not, they check out all the cars as they would if a customer brought it in themselves, now only because mr sanchez privately owns the vehicle, does that make him automatically more safer of a driver with no wrecks? does it mean he beat up on his car and decided to neglect maintenance absolutely not a car is a car is a car is a car...that is all

I've never been to a Car Max, I'm in no way defending them as far as I'm concerned all car dealers are dirt bags. I have to say, are you retarded? You must me to purchase one way non-refundable plan tickest to go purchase a vehicle you have never seen or test drove. Why in the world would you go there even after you were told the vehicle had been sold? I can't believe the sales guy told you he would pick you up at the airport, that makes no sense, he did not have a vehicle to sell you. Living in LA myself I find it hard to believe that you co uld not find an suv to buy here, I think your full of crap, this never happened. If it did you are true moron. Hey I have an SUV for sale want to buy it, no need to drive it i'll just send you some pictures! Dumb a*s.

Hate to tell this to you. THEY DONT CARE. When it comes to SUV's they will always take a bird in the hand given how poorly they move.

I had setup the same situation locally with a Carmax but was treated alot better. They actually pulled it onto the showroom floor cuz it was at night and cold and stayed past close. So I think you just got the luck of the draw with a poor salesperson who didnt know how to please his customer. Given the economy and market Im sure you will have no issue finding another comparable SUV deal.
