That Carmax didn't offer you the "right" price for your car? Even though you bought it from them?

That doesn't matter, and you were free to not accept their offer. I have found Carmax to offer a better price than trade-in at a dealership but less than selling to a private party. But with the risk of selling to a private party with counterfeit money orders and cashiers checks....explains why the last two cars I've gotten rid of were sold to Carmax.
