I applied for a loan online from Cash Today Ltd. They called to verify my employment and spoke with me to verbally make a promissary note with them stating your name and date at the end of every statement.

I listened very carefully, trust me. They told me if i wish to pay the loan off in full to respond to an email on the due date or to call 3 days before and pay via telephone. I called three days prior and they said to pay it in the email I should have any day now.

The next day I checked my email; nowhere did it say anything about paying in full but I clicked to pay at least the processing fee. That was done and charged to my bank account. Then I called then right after to tell them I paid there (now I know) ridiculous fee and wished to pay the balance of $200 off. DOn't worry about it the balance of $200 will automatically come out next Friday.

Meanwhile I am getting emails stating to pay my fee again and that it has been extended. I called again, wanting to pay off. It's too late to pay it, then the following Friday another $59 comes out of my acount. Call them on a Saturday, no answer, left a message, no return call. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SOCIAL ON VOICE MAILS EVER! I did not leave my social just my name and phone number.

Then called on a Sunday and asked what was going on; why can't I pay and why is there another charge? I never agreed to all the so called processing fees. He said no supervisor was around. I told him not only will I file a complaint with the BBB and RIp off report but I would close out my account and fight this to the bitter end and they wont get another penny out of me. He said to try him tomorrow and maybe he can help me then but the $200 will come out NEXT Friday. I told him that's what you said the last two weeks BS!!

This is still unresolved. I just had a security breech at my bank and had to change accounts and order new checks; now best believe it I will go down there MOnday AM and tell them what is happening and to process an ACH reversal transaction to the last $59 and to then close out my account immmediately.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SEARCHING RIP OFF REPORT.COM BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH ANY COMPANY. IT SAVED ME FROM MAKING ANOTHER MISTAKE! DO not believe the hype; if it sounds too good to be true, IT IS! A $59 processing fee is not reasonable and wont be the only fee you see if you do "business" with the scamming company.

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back!

HERE IS WHAT RIP-OFF REPORT SUGGESTS YOU DO:

Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish to file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E.

According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it has been more than 60 days.

If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist you properly at the 800 #, and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to deal with it, take the loss and reverse the charges.

Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.com. And if you're at the bank, walk them over to their computer and make them go to this site! If you are on the phone with them, tell them you will wait while they access this site! Either way, be persistent!

DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!

Let them know nicely, that you were advised to Report them (the Bank) and this situation to the Banking Commission in your state. Since each state has a different name for the agency/controller over banks, find that name before you call or get to the bank so you can throw it in their face. The more knowledgeable you appear to be, the further you will get.

And just continue to demand the Federal Regulation E form! The bank CAN, MUST and WILL reverse the charge! But, you must be persistent; ask to speak to the supervisor or the area manager for all the branches in the state.

Let the bank personnel know you are meeting with the media later in the day, that you would much rather they do the right thing (as most other banks have) by looking at the complaints and immediately reversing the charge(s) to your account; no matter how long ago it was. Be sure to call the Media if necessary so you are telling the truth.

If you have to, be loud (but nice) in front of other customers. If you are just calling by phone, the above tactics should still work. The bank can easily fax or mail to you the Federal Regulation E dispute form.

CHARGES TO YOUR CREDIT CARD

If the charge was to your credit card (not debit card, check card, or checking account), contact the credit card company as soon as possible to request a dispute form. Consumers usually have a little longer to dispute fraudulent credit card charges (up to 6 months), but it is better to act right away. In this type of situation, credit card disputes are usually successful since fraudulent companies often won't contest the disputed charge. In rare cases, credit card companies will review disputes, but refuse to reverse the charges. If this occurs, complain to a manager and let them know you will be filing a report here.

Remember Don't let them get away with it! Make sure they make the Rip-off Report .. The more Reports filed on a Company or individual, the more likely it is that the authorities, media and attorneys will want to take action.

And good luck Let us know how you do!

By The Way...

AUTHOR: Elizabeth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 05, 2005

I have called them to speak with someone about giving me back the processing fees they "stole" from me so far 5 times today - Have got their voice mail every time- I have left them 3 messages in the last week and no one ever returned my call. Why do they need a voice mail system- they need to answer their phone! If they have this much business and make a fortune of scamming money out of innocent people- they should be able to hire more operators. I have tried to hit zero to get back in the loop without having to call again and tried hitting 1 instead of 4 or 2 instead of 4 and still get voice mail. Hey I should at least get an A for trying so hard. Back to the phone to waste more of my day trying to call them- I should be paid for doing all this work- FYI _ the guy I talked to on Sunday told me to try again on Monday and maybe h is supervisor will be in to help me- I will let you know what happens- this saga is far from being over I can tell.

NO POINT OF CONTACT

AUTHOR: Elizabeth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 05, 2005

I totally understand that the extra $59 was to extend the loan- the major problem is that there was no way of letting me pay the loan over the phone. When I called he said I could pay in the email they would send me- I didnt need to pay it on the Tuesday before since I called- yet he wouldnt give me his name or direct line and also come to find out that my conversation was never taped! Yet they have me calling that weekend complaining about the situation. I have contacted my bank and they told me that since they have my account number and I dont know what amount they will be taking out the best thing to do is close it out and open a new account- now I have to buy new checks AGAIN! I just went thru this last month with an error that my bank had made. She also told me that there is no way of preventing them from trying to withdraw money in the future either. I never received a written contract from them- I thought to be odd- and they only called to verify my employment- I could have lied for all they know. After reading past problems I think I able to say they are fraudulent and scammers. What they are doing is not right- I wanted to pay my loan off but there is no way to get thru to anyone - I called today and he said to check my email- I received one saying that the full $200 will be withdrawn from my account this Friday- how much do you wanna bet it will be $259???? I am reporting them to the BBB and also closing out my account at my bank- they will not be able to take money from me if they dont know how. Let them put it on my credit report, I will fight them on it. There is no way I am going to pay $59 three times for a $200 loan- its absurd.

To anyone else who has done business with them and it is still not resolved - close your account today! Good luck to all of you! And thanks to the peeps for your input.

All legitamate payday loan companies (even fax-less) will either provide a link or email you the truth in lending document required for loans.

Apparently Cash Today ain't one of them.

And also true, if you are not able to speak to a life person, then there is no way to obtain needed information to use Western Union.

Good luck. I hope you are able to get this resolved quickly.

There is no written contract with them

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, December 04, 2005

They supply a faxless loan, it is handled completely over the phone. They do record the entire conversation of the actual "contract" portion of the call.

The problem with Cash Today is they send you an e-mail that says this:

"If you wish to only pay the Processing Fee then you can now do this automatically by clicking on

By Clicking Here you are Agreeing to Pay Fees Only on Wednesday, 16 November 2005

IMPORTANT After clicking the above link you should receive an email within 1 hour, If not then your request may not have been accepted and you will need to ring the toll free number below

Please understand that if we do not hear from you at least 3 days prior to your next payday, then we will assume that you wish to extend your loan.

If however you wish to pay off your loan , or want to discuss any other aspect of your loan with us please ring on the following toll free number
1-800-680-2177 *

1. New loan If you are an existing customer and you would like a new loan, please leave your SSN and other details including any new telephone number and we will return your call. Please note that we cannot send a new loan to customers within 5 working days of clearance of your last loan.

2. Extending loan If you would like to hold on to your loan and pay the processing fee only. You can leave a message with your SSN and other details and we will process the extension.

3. New customer If you have any friends that you are recommending, please tell them to leave their details here together with your name or SSN. Assuming that we can tie the new customer in to your details, you will receive a Bonus Credit for each completed loan introduced.

4. Loan status query If you would like to check the status of your loan, please leave your details here and we will call you back after having checked our understanding of the situation. This email was sent within one hour of your loan actually being sent into the banking system. Although loans often arrive on the very next working day, it can vary from Bank to Bank and sometimes loans can take upto 3 days to arrive.

5. Repayment in full If you would like to repay the full amount of your loan please leave your details here, together with the best contact telephone number for you as we will need to speak to you to confirm your instructions.

For any other enquiries, stay on the line, leave a message and an operator will return your call. However, it will help us to assist you faster and more efficiently, if you select one of the options above"

So, it pretty much says they arent going to answer their phones and to leave them a message. So based on #5 above if they dont ever call you back, you are NEVER going to get the loan repaid.

Elizabeth, closing the account is probably your best option with them.

Robert, in order to Western Union them, you would still have to speak to an actual person to get their Code city to send it to.

Read you loan paperwork.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, December 04, 2005

It should fully explain the charges you agreed to when you took out the loan.

I am not a fan of payday loans, but I have used a few in the past to get out of a jam.

The way it works is this. You need to contact them by the Tuesday before the Friday that the debit is to be submitted against your account to tell them if you will be paying them off in full or extending the loan.

Now, you took a 200 dollar loan. Assuming the loan fee is 30 dollars per 100 you would owe them 260 to pay the loan in full. If you decided to extend the loan, you would still have to pay the 60 dollar fee. However, you will still owe the original 260 to pay off the loan in full. The 60 dollar fee "allows" you to hold onto the original 200 dollars another week. It is, in effect, a new loan each time it is extended. Look at it like this, you have paid them the 200 plus the 60 fee and they are loaning you the 200 back, with a new 60 dollar fee on the same day.

This is the point where most people get into trouble. The payday loan company will continue to charge your account 60 dollars each week for the loan fee until you either pay down or pay off the 260 that you owe them for the original loan.

As you can see, the fees start adding up quickly and you end up paying more in fees than what you borrowed. Most payday loan companies will automatically extend your loan if you do not contact them by the previous Tuesday for your "convenience". You get charged the loan fee but you will still owe the original loan amount plus the original fee.

Not so much a fraud or a scam but rather deceptive. As with any contact, you need to read all of it to see what you are agreeing to before you sign on the dotted line.

Keep in mind that if you go and close out your account and have the ACH reversed, the loan company will probably charge you another fee for the nonpayment and more than likely send your account to collections. Then they really start to make your life a living hell. Again read through the loan documents to see what you are up against. If at all possible, send them the payment through Western Union (by Tuesday) to pay them and get rid of them.

Please understand that I am not sticking up for the payday loan companies. When I have found that I had no other choice but to take a payday loan I have made sure that it would be payed in full on the next payday.

Good luck.
