CCA - HOW TO SHUT THEM DOWN. But first, my story... My fiance received a letter in the mail purporting to be a bill from CCA. As a former fraud investigator, I reviewed this letter and determined in about 30 seconds that it was a fraud. CCA was attempting to tell her she owed them $311, with a minimum payment due of $150. When I called the toll-free number, they said she had contacted them on a specific date and activated her account. I knew this was totally untrue, because I handle all of her finances. My fiance never had any prior contact with CCA, so I decided to investigate this further. I found this website (wicked cool!) and you all provided me with some very interesting information. Her purse had been stolen a number of months ago and in it were a few of her checks. Apparently, the thieves attempted to do business with CCA, so CCA was attempting to make automatic deductions from her checking account. The bank was stopping payment on all of these, so she didn't lose any money. But, since CCA couldn't get money directly from the bank, they sent her the collection letter. It wasn't until CCA sent the letter to her that I was able to put the pieces together. Greed is usually the criminal's undoing. I contacted the Nevada Department of Safety, Investigations Division. I was advised to have my fiance file a complaint with her local police department in Massachusetts, and then make sure the local cops contacted Nevada, (775) 687-3346. Make sure you provide all documentary evidence to your local police. Also provide exact dates of telephone contact and the subject of discussions on those dates. Then, I contacted the United States Postal Inspectors out of Boston MA. If you want to talk to your local postal inspectors, check the USPS website for your local postal inspectors' office address and phone. The postal inspector I spoke to advised me to file a fraud complaint online at: http://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/fraud/MailFraudComplaint.htm I have read so many of the stories out here about CCA, and it's time we all did something. So, if you're all really serious and want some results, if you all do what I did above, we can stop this ripoff. Paul Concord, New Hampshire
