Well I began my service with Suncom (AT&T) a few years back and then they merged with Cingular recently? So we all think?

I received a letter in the mail stating my phone would be shut off if not switching over to cingular?
Well this is where they get you. It says you have till June 1, 2005

Well I wasn't for sure I wanted to stay with them, until the last day. Well at this point I had to call in and do it over the phone. The Cingular guy was very helpful (the only one I have found so far) and stayed on the line with me for nearly an hour talking about different phones.

Then he said ok what about the other number on your bill. I asked that it be shut off he said ok done. Mine meanwhile was "ported over" to Cingular (God Forgive me)
Well then I received a bill in the mail from Suncom.
It said I owed for both phones 110.95 for the billing pd. get this of June 01-June 30 2005. When the phones were both automatically shut off on June 6. They said this would not be returned to me if I pat it, but my husband's credit is at stake if we don't.

I really need some legal advice.

This would be an excellent "case" for a lawyer to pick up, since theres so many of us complaining.

They are now trying to tell me that my other phone wasn't merged over I will def. have to pay for it? Yet the phone can't be used, because service is off.
I spent nearly three hours with suncom & cingular on the phone.

It's like we had two companys working against each other. Is it really a merge?? If so would I be dealing with one company?

Other probs.
My sister sent off her phone because of a battery; she got a loaner phone. This was back in Dec, and she to this point has never received her phone??

Thanks@!

Just to explain to those who are not sure about this whole AT&T wireless and cingular merger. This is what happenned. ATT and cingular merged and this made the government step in b/c they said it(cingular) would be a monopoly and that it would need to sell certain territories to other companies. Well unfortunately one of those territories were several cities in North Carolina. Charlotte being one of those turned over to Suncom. If you go to www.suncom.com you will see in the top right hand corner a link that you can click on. It will take you to a FAQ for North Carolina customers. It should answer some of your questions. A problem you may have when trying to terminate your ATT service, or now Suncom service, is that you will be referred to the store when call 611 and when you go to the store you will be referred to call 611. Also if you were previously an ATT wireless customer you may also run into the problem of being passed around to Suncom, Cingular, and ATT when you call for assistance, because they say they don't know who can help you with terminating your account. You will keep getting tranfered around and nobody will help you. Anyways I am going to the FCC wireless division and the NC state Attorney General to fight this because we previous ATT customers were sold to Suncom and now suncom is trying to force us to use thier bad service and they will not let you out of the contract even though it states this on thier website. Here it is...
Q: What happens to my existing service contract?

What happens to my existing service contract?

A. The terms of your existing contract will not change. The contract will transfer to SunCom. If we don't offer you an identical service plan or one that is better than your current plan, you will be free to terminate your service with us without incurring any termination charges.
