In August 2009, Verizon sold me a new blackberry tour smartphone. The trackball was extremely difficult to use - especially when moving it from left to right. Usually, the trackball would have no effect on the screen and then suddenly jump several places over from where I wanted it to be. Since this was a brand new phone, I made the mistake of assuming that this was as good as it gets. However, the trackball response deteriorated to the point now where it pretty much doesn't work at all. It can take me about 30 seconds to get it to move something on the screen. I started searching on the web for this issue, found out that many of the phones shipped in the first couple of months had defective trackballs. I also read that the problem has been resolved with a newer version of the phone.

I have two issues with Verizon over this. 1) They probably knowingly sold me a phone with a faulty trackball. Since the problem was resolved within a couple of months, it seems that something on the blackberry production line was changed to fix it. They had to know about that at the time that I was buying my phone. 2) They insist on replacing my phone with a refurbished one. I paid a huge price for a new phone. I never got a new phone that works and now I'm being sent a refurbished one. From what I have read, most of the refurbished phones are the same ones that were already sent in for trackball problems and people are having the same issues with the refurbished versions. So, I will probably be trapped with this trackball frustration until this contract runs out. Verizon should simply take these faulty phones out of circulation and replace them with phones that work.

If it wasn't a long time ago, try disputing the charge to your bank because you didn't sign up for that phone.
