I visited a Verizon retail location at Carolina Place Mall (unaware it was a dealer of Verizon products called Cellular Sales of North Carolina on upper level). We (myself,wife and daughter) stopped by 9/6/2009 to upgrade my daughters phone. The salesman (xxxx) suggested we should switch everything over to wireless (phones and our 3 computers) Save money..$75 a month! he said) Get rid of cable internet and switch to us! I told him that I am a Realtor and I am online alot... all the time..my daughter and wife are online alot also...all the time..all hours of day..sending and receiving informatioin to clients, etc. NO PROBLEM he said! Do it and save money! Well, like an idiot I did. I took his little playing card size transceiver and plugged it in at home and I was online! Wow! Returned cable equipment to Time Warner and thought doing well!
Over the course of next 5 weeks we used the Verizon wireless connection for our computers, phones and even house phone! I plugged it in like xxxx said and it worked! About 5 weeks into this I had trouble signing online one night and called Verizon help.
I was asked to check Verizoneasyaccess for some information on my computer. I had no idea what they were talking about??? After downloading and installing it I saw it tracks my data usuage and after 5000 something or others it charges me.. I had incurred $135 in charges by then. I asked about this and was told by Verizon that you should not use Verizon for your home work usage as you will
easily exceed band limit if you are online alot and salesman should have told you this upfront. News to me!! I called other providers and was told same thing. So why was I not told about this restriction and charges????? I repeatedly told salesman about my excessive usage as a Realtor and with a 11 yr old daughter and wife we are on the computer alot!!
I called retail location where I bought this and left messages. After not hearing from (salesman) I asked for Store manager name and contacted him. I wanted out and how do I do it fastest! Mr Useless said all the right things when I spoke to him this first time. Agreed this is not for home business usage and promised to look into it. After no contact for 4 days I emailed him and he told me he can not do anything until I return (equip) little transceiver box. I returned it (got receipt) and waited another 6 days without any answer. I called him then and was told that..too bad. I have to pay usuage charge and for equipment I returned ($425) but they were considering...considering mind you.. waiving early
termination charge of $175. Wow..how nice.
1. I was unaware during the 30 day grace period of a program I should have installed to monitor usage. So I was not aware of charges until after 30 day grace period when I could have returned everything without penalty because this does not work for a Realtor!!
2. I was also not aware of the severe limitations of this type of system for my situation despite telling salesman of my job and family usage.
3. Most importantly the salesman misrepresented the product, how to install it properly, and how to monitor its usage.
When i complained about this to Mgr..his response was you can use it for some business purposes..but not a Realtor though. Sorry, The bill comes to $675. Pay it.
I asked for his supervisors name and was told he can not tell me that. His last comment was do what you want.
Now I know I can not be the only one out there getting screwed like this. I would have never considered the change UNTIL THE SALESMAN PUSHED IT AS SOME GREAT SAVINGS..so yes I hold them responsible due to their deception!! These people are not Verizon..they are Cellular Sales of North Carolina.. RIP OFF !!!
